Threads is FAR superior to The Day After The British version and far more realistic and bleak as to what a post-nuclear war society would really look like.

I watched Threads on Tubi. This was much darker than "The Day After". Makes me want to build a fallout shelter and stock up on food buckets for 30 years supply. Beagle lives matter. ______ (\ / @\_____ / ( ) /O / ( )______/ ///_____/

I didn't think it was all that good throughout the movie. The ending made it even worse. Don't waste your time.

The ending was total crap. I also just finished watching the new season of the Diplomat and it's ending leaves you hanging as well. NRA Life Member

Gotta have a cliffhanger to get folks fired up for the next season. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

I believe they intentionally left out who fired it and the response. Even though its a movie I don't think they wanted to deal with the aftermath of portraying North Korea, China or Russia nuking the US and the response.

Did not care for it at all. It's like the filmmaker read Annie Jacobsen's book, watered it down for those who are too lazy to read and forgot to write an ending.

They took a lot of shortcuts in that movie. I'm not sure if the movie was pessimistic, anti-war or if it was telling a cautionary tale of possible future events. The entire movie was vague and numb. The United States would know where a missile like that came from. That missile would glow on the screens of many separate and discrete systems. It wouldn't just "show up". The entire premise reminded me of "The Dome" because something "just happened" for no reason. Additionally, the actors made the military members look inept at completing simple tasks. The people that run those systems are professional and fully capable of doing their job. We'll have to overlook the incredible velocity claim of 10 km/sec !!!! The movie needed people to do basic fact finding to help make it believable. My biggest complaint is the writers trying to use names and numbers to sound authentic. They couldn't couldn't pull it off and left us with cold porridge. Roger

I agree that "Nuclear War - A Scenario" is a better inside look at a nuclear attack. But it's not that they forgot to write an ending. The filmmaker deliberately left it vague, reportedly as a way to spark thoughts and discussions among the viewers as to how they would react and what could be done to deescalate/prevent such a no-win scenario. Unfulfilling from a purely entertainment/plot perspective, perhaps. But arguably effective at its declared intent.
Not if it was launched from a previously unknown sea-based platform, as surmised in one of the primary theories from the film (North Korea using a rumored but unconfirmed and untracked sub launch capability). The launch was detected... they just don't know who launched it.

I watched it last night and agree with a lot of the comments here. One thing for me: Idris Elba was a big miss as President. I generally like his acting (esp. "Luther"), but he was totally unconvincing as President. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

They couldn’t shoot the missile down because that would have been the end of the movie.

I get what you’re saying but this movie was not made well enough to do that intellectual stuff.

I found the premise for this movie fascinating! The different perspectives were really great! The SECDEF incident (not to spoil it) was a surprise. Some of these comments about the end miss the point of what was trying to be presented. Again, I think this is a great "what would you do" exercise. The ending is how you make it - will there be more launches toward the US, who will you retaliate against and to what level... Finally watched this. I had to fast forward through 30% of it. The ending was fine. In fact, I welcomed it. I didn't like the story or the characters at all (except for Rebecca). Americans came across as weak idiots. But perhaps that's reflective of blue leadership. Perhaps that's the point to be made here? "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it."
