It was. We don't got to a lot of theater movies but this was one we made sure to do so.

Watched 24 Hour War this weekend. Also really good, with lots of original footage which was neat.

I watched The 24 Hour War a couple months before seeing Ford v Ferrari. Quite enjoyed both.

I had this on my watchlist for a long time but never felt motivated to watch it despite the great reviews. Got around to it last night and what a fantastic movie. Solid acting performances, cinematography and storytelling. What impressed me the most was how much of the drama was real. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

It was so good in the theater with Dolby Atmos.
Was definitely worth the cost for the big screen.
Same with Rush, so great in the theater, but still good at home.

I used to enjoy going to the movies for that experience however a lifetime of shooting guns, exposure to loud music and barking dogs has left me with pretty bad tinnitus. Only way I can goto the theater is if I bring ear protection. I don't have quite the setup here in PR that I had before but it's decent and I can get enough of the experience without spiking my tinnitus.

Wife and I bought this movie a few years ago, without having ever seen it. Figured it was a safe bet; it was. We watched it for the second time about a week ago, after having recently re-watched LeMans.

I'm typically inspired to conduct follow-on research, after watching movies like these, and I had done some after the first viewing. After this second viewing, I looked into the South African Superformance cars. They are used in the film, and are considered "continuation" cars. They are available for purchase, if you've got the cheese.

In watching a YouTube video about those cars, I began to read comments. Apparently Ken Miles did not set any lap records at LeMans. It seems this is true, based on my, so far, limited research. There was also dispute in the comments about the end-of-race controversy. Anyone here know the facts?

It annoys me that Hollywood is seemingly never content to just tell a perfectly exciting and interesting story.

I need to watch 24 Hour War.

*Revival of an old thread*

Very late to this party, but I watched this movie last night...right before Netflix got rid of it. It had been on my list for a while. I enjoyed it all the way through. As to some of the other comments regarding actors roles, I think everyone did a fine job, but admittedly, I never met the characters in person, nor saw them in interviews etc....so I had no expectations.

ETA, Henry II kind of reminded me of Dick Cheney. Big Grin

Glad you reopened the thread. I also watched the movie for the first time recently and I read this whole thread.

I watched the first 1.5 hours one night. I stopped right before Le Mans. I loved it at that point. At work the next day, I couldn't wait to watch the rest. I loved Ken Miles and the way he was portrayed by Bale to that point. I knew the history only to the point that Ford would win. I knew nothing of Miles's story.

After watching the end, I couldn't have been sadder. I couldn't even be mad at the writing since it was a true story. What Ford did to Miles, taking the victory away from him, made me ashamed to drive a Ford (no choice, it's a company car). I hated Bruce McLaren. What an honorless driver to overtake Miles who he knew had slowed down for him. Then Miles dies, with his son watching. So sad. What a bad night. That scene with the boy, on his bike, talking to Shelby, killed me. Since that day, I've softened on the whole thing. I do love that GT40. I've watched so many YouTube videos on it since. I guess, all in all, this movie tries to give Miles the credit he deserves, but it will always be an injustice to me that Miles's name isn't in the record book, and I despise Ford for winning a few more after.

The danger of baobabs is so little recognized.

Can't find the exact line but I laughed when the German Porsche team guy was trying to recruit Ken Miles to come drive for them and he snorted and said something like:

"Last time I drove in your country I was in a tank heading for Berlin, I'd never work for you people!"

I had a great uncle who was in the Pacific theater with the USMC in WWII who saw some bad shit and he told me he'd never buy a "Jap" car as long as he lived and he didn't.
