We have HBO Max so I watched The Suicide Squad tonight. IMO better than the first! Comedy and action to the max, but then again, I'm easily entertained! ____________________________ Everybody knows that the dice are loaded

Is Hollywood SO seriously bankrupt of new ideas that they are remaking movies that only came out like 4 years ago???

Do No Harm, Do Know Harm |
My son was excited about this. Asked if we could watch it tonight. Just finishing it now. I believe it is the dumbest thing I’ve ever watched all the way through. I feel stupider than I was 2 hours ago. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard. -JALLEN "All I need is a WAR ON DRUGS reference and I got myself a police thread BINGO." -jljones

Wow, really? Ok help me out here sir. I thought the original Suicide Squuad was OK. And by that I mean I watched it at home on 1080p Blu Ray. I remember a green witch type villain, and sugar tits and Will Smith, and the guy that drank a lot banding together to take the bitch down. I’d give it a 3 on a 5 star scale. So is this new one a 1, or 2? Because if it’s that bad I won’t even waste my time watching it on HBO Max. It looked terrible from the trailer, I mean shit. And I’m personally well past over this genre, as I think it’s been done to death for quite sometime. Those Marvel films, fuck man put a damn silver stake in all of it. No Disney+ for me. More SuperHo in tights is just not anything I’m interested in seeing anymore with a couple of caveats. The new Blade with Ali as Ali is really hitting his stride, excellent actor, and it’s my favorite SuperHo of all time. Loved the original Blades, especially the first, and feel that first film even set the state for The Matrix in costume design, tone, etc. Morbius, and only because of Jared Leto as I consider him to be one of the best actors living today. And I’ll watch at least the first “The” Batman film because along the same line as Leto, I think Pattinson is coming into his prime as an actor. I guess I’m saying unless the lead is really an outstanding actor such as Benedict Cumberbatch forget it. And I don’t go to the theater anymore and never will again (phone interruptions). Happy to wait for 4k blu ray. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Fighting the good fight |
It's a sequel. Sequels have been a commonplace part of the film industry practically since film began (1908ish, depending on the exact criteria used to define "film sequel"), and of literature long before that (the late 1600s).

As Rogue said, it's a sequel. It's difficult to tell without seeing a trailer because the two titles are so similar, though. However, to your point, there was at least one case of a remake coming out almost immediately after the original: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Six years between the original and remake. Let the Right One In and Let Me In are even closer, at 2 years apart. It’s a sequel / soft reboot kinda thing. I loved it. I think DC is better off embracing their batshit crazy then trying to chase the MCU. I am enjoying stuff like this, the Doom Patrol and the Harley Quinn cartoon far more then the MEH attempts at their own MCU. I also kinda dug the fact that (SOFT SPOILER) It used a Batman the Brave and the bold storyline for some of it. It’s HARD R, pretty funny, graphic and doesn’t take itself seriously. It’s just big dumb fun. It’s amazing how much I missed big dumb fun. Godzilla vs. Kong was the same way. No Oscar aspirations, no preaching, no “buying the world a Coke” kumbaya bullshit just big dumb fun. Suicide Squad is also big dumb fun and I was happier for it. "Guns are tools. The English language version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a remake of the a Swedish version of the same film. Similarly, Let The Right One In was a Swedish film and Let Me in was an American remake. Also, the US remake of the Japanese film Ring as The Ring. I think there is a big difference in remaking a foreign language film that not a lot of people in the US have a chance to see, and remaking the same film in the same language.

The first movie is named "Suicide Squad", while the sequel/reboot is named "The Suicide Squad". I miss Harley's outfit from the first movie. That alone should have won an Oscar.

Why are they the same name then?

Fighting the good fight |
It's not the same. It's a variation of the same. Because that's the hip new trend with sequel titles these days. Mostly gone are the old days of "Movie Title 2 (or II if you're being pretentious)". Fairly common nowadays is "Movie Title: Insert Subtitle". But some marketing teams for sequels feel like they have to try to come up with "cool" variations of the original title. Or a play on the original title. The sequel to "Suicide Squad" is "The Suicide Squad". Much like some of the sequels to "The Fast and the Furious" were "Fast and Furious", and then "The Fate of the Furious". Or the sequel to "Alien" was "Aliens". See also Analyze This/Analyze That, Dumb and Dumber/Dumb and Dumberer, Chronicles of Riddick/Riddick, The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises, Final Destination/The Final Destination, Predator/Predators, et al. Nearly the same names, but all sequels, not remakes.

Both of the Swedish films were released in American theaters and I watched them both that way. People are just too lazy to read subtitles and need Hollywood to remake movies to hold their hands, I guess. WOW... Absolute shit. DC needs to stop making movies. Watched it on HBO, and still feel ripped off. My wife walked out of the room about 35 minutes in and I wish I would have. Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

My wife and I watched it this evening. Wife: "It's kinda stupid, but ok. Not something I'd watch again." I guess that pretty much sums up my feelings. I loved the Harley Quinn character. (Is it just me, or does she have some Sophia Vigara vibe goin' on?) Anyway... mindless amusement. I think that's what they were going for. "America is at that awkward stage. I looked forward to this film as there is not much coming out on the big screen or TV that interests or entertains me. I thought the first was entertaining. This one just didn’t do much for me. I guess I expected more and walked away thinking “I’m glad I didn’t shell out a mint at the theater to watch this one”. It’s better than most television these days but it was just ok.

The Unmanned Writer |
Wife and I watched it last Saturday night (HBO Max). Two things; a. James Gunn needs to stick with making Guardians of Galaxy movies looking like Galaxy, not other movies and; b. what a POS - we're both VERY happy this was part of out monthly subscription and we didn't actually go to the theater to watch! Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. +3 for the three people who watched it at my house......the best thing anyone said about it, "I was really expecting it to get better at some point", but it didn't.

The Quiet Man |
I found it to be a big stupid fun movie and vastly superior to the first one. It's not a GOOD movie, but I had fun watching it. "I cherish peace. I don't care how many men, women, and children I have to kill to get it." I like John Cena playing Peacemaker as a douchebag version of Captain America meets Punisher. My only real question is once the end game starts and you've got a giant monster going all Kaiju on folks, shouldn't at least the Justice League B Team have made an appearance?

Yeah, that M14 video guy... |
I watched the critical drinker's review/breakdown of it. Wow! What a stupid movie! Polka-dot man?! Shark dude?! Weasel? I mean, James Gunn pulled off an animal character with Rocket but I think that was a one-off. I didn't mind the premise of the first Suicide Squad, but this looks just plain stupid. Like, why the hell am I watching this? kind of stupid. Tony. Owner, TonyBen, LLC, Type-07 FFL www.tonybenm14.com (Site under construction). e-mail: tonyben@tonybenm14.com
