I guess I’m supposed to add another line from the song. Too many memories.

Saw Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen many winters ago. Nicolette Larson was still with him and I swear to God she kept looking at me. I never tried to do anything about it, so I’ll never know for sure, but you can’t take the memory.

Bill Kirchen. The Telecaster King. He played lead guitar with Commander Cody and Hot Rod Lincoln is legendary among Telecaster aficionados, and I’m one.

We had flames comin' from out of the side.
Feel the tension. Man! What a ride!

A bit o history, Comander Cody made the song famous but it was written by Charlie Ryan, and along with the song he built the hot rod lincoln.

Sold it at BJ Auctions back in 2013

The first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title was Born on the Bayou.

yup.

Wouldn't hold out much hope for the tape deck though.

Or the Creedence.

I knew the original version was "It's got twelve cylinders and uses them all, got overdrive and just won't stall." Now I know the rest of the story. What a car!

The first lines of Born on the Bayou wrote by John Fogerty for CCR

"Now, when I just was a little boy,
Standin' to my Daddy's knee,
My poppa said "Son, don't let the man get you and do what he done to me."

The first lines of Hot Rod Lincoln wrote by Johnny Bond

My pappy said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln."

Hot Rod Lincoln was the first record I ever bought. A 45 rpm, don’t know what was the B-side. Circa 1972, I was 9 years old.

Just looked it up - “My Home in my Hand” was the B side
