Sad to read… Most of you probably knew him for this song… Being from the Minnesota, I’ll always remember him for this one… ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Staring back from the abyss |
So many memories to his music. Gord's Gold is one of my favorite albums. Even had it on 8-track. I think I'll cue it up tonight and take a trip down memory lane. Now two of my three all time favorite songwriters are gone. John Prine and Gord. I fear the third (Kristofferson) isn't too far behind. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

So sorry to hear this. I remember hearing “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” every 15 minutes one summer (or so it seemed). The Fitz sank on my birthday. Now I think of him almost every time I drive down Carefree Highway. He will be missed.

Seen him several times in Duluth from where the Fitzgerald left port for the last time. He was more than a songwriter but a true wordsmith that not many can or will equal. Big fan of Gordon Lightfoot going back to the 70's. I know he was not well several years ago in his mid-70's. Glad he made it as long as he did. Gord's Gold and Gord's Gold, Vol. 2 are must haves.

Very sad to hear. I was a fan before the Fitz went down but that really put him in the spotlight. Still have his albums, they may get played tonight. I had not played them in some time but during last deer season listened to them while in my blind, brought back tons of memories. Jim

His most famous ballad is one of the first songs I leaned on guitar. I just played a bit in his memory. RIP Gordo. Enjoy listening to your music and having seen you live many times. Thanks for the memories. The legend live on... A song I remember well, when my marriage was going into the crapper. RIP, Gordon. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".

Just watched the If You Could Read My Mind documentary with the wife tonight. Illustrates just how the ridiculous the attempts are of all the rap artists are at composing. How weak the attempts of all the country music artists are at writing lyrics. They are nursery rhymes compared to what Lightfoot could compose and arrange. Was always a fan. Used to sing and play a few of his songs in bars when I was an aspiring singer-songwriter. Saw him from about third row center in a small auditorium/opera house in St. Louis on the Sundown tour in the early '70's. His guitarist at the time was Terry Clements... amazing accompaniment to Gordon's vocals and rhythm guitar. Great show. RIP.

No less a songwriter than Bob Dylan would probably agree with you; he was a fan of Lightfoot's.

^^^ What a fantastic tribute. Gordon was certainly one of a kind and like Rick, I wish I had seen him perform. RIP, Gordon Lightfoot. This message has been edited. Last edited by: 6guns,

I too was fond of his work. Appreciate the posts above about the documentary. Was unaware of it and plan to watch it soon. Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192
