I referenced a ham fisted gay insert in a different thread. It was so cringe-inducing that we decided to stop watching it. “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. Mencken

Well they managed to insert a 'shut up and dribble' storyline about a black athlete So creative, wonder where they got that idea... This season is definitely not as entertaining as the previous two, not very lively or, enjoyable. They've lost the shine the past two seasons had. I thought the Zava storyline had some potential, emphasizing the self-absorbed, stereotypes of soccer players...nope, he just retired. Nate is just pathetic, he was already a meek, milquetoast fool but, no-shit he's pitiful. The Jamie-Roy storyline is just...pathetic also. Really? in order to make Jamie a 'better player' is....to have him run. Just keep running. All day, all night, just run. Keely and her not bad looking new g/f...whatever. She's a lost character that if eliminated, wouldn't affect the show.

Still watching it. I get it, unnecessary bullshit added to a clever show, but Roy Kent is such a great character and there are many others who are very good. _______________________________________________________ despite them

I'm on episode 8 (out of 9 currently available) and it's just a lot less cheerful than the previous two seasons. It's not depressing...it's just really blah. Inner conflict seems to be the overarching theme this season. And we've only really seen them focus on the football for the game against West Ham. Every other episode is "other stuff" with football sometimes shown briefly in the background. Episode 10 started at a low point and seemed to be heading deeper into darkness but the upturn about two thirds of the way through the episode was extremely welcome. In fact, the beautiful musical interlude where Nathan plays the violin was actually performed by Nick Mohammed accompanied by his wife on the piano. The violin playing was solid, really good piece but, Nathan is just a puss. They've portrayed him as a guy who's failed to launch, had him crawling back to his parents, hidding in his old room for days; in realty his hard-ass dad would've kicked him out or, given him a sack-up speach. What women in her right mind wants to be with a guy who's constantly dithering and is unable to summon any backbone or, grit?

Episode 11. Such a devastating ending but hard not to see it coming as the episode progressed. 2 things I didn’t like: ********SPOILER ALERT****** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 1. Ted arrives back home with his suitcase and pulls up to his family home, even though he and his wife are divorced and she’s been seeing someone else? And she welcomes him in, suitcase and all? Huh? Did Jake just go poof? C’mon. 2. The writers did amazing character arcs with others (I.e. Jamie Tart), but they fell flat for me when they had Rupert step over the edge with his evil black flapping duster - going onto the pitch to literally attack someone. Just an episode or so ago, he was acting like a more reasonable human being (albeit still a disgusting lech) during talks of a super league. These 2 things didn’t ring true for me, but other than that, a great series, and I thank whomever it was here that convinced me to go back and take another look at it. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

My wife and I saw the show finale last night. It was a great ending to a great (not perfect, but great) show. Kudoes for leaving on a high note.

I understand your point but I also believe it was inferred by the way Jake was responding to the match, even ending up sitting at the counter toward the end, that things weren't going to end well between them. Still, you are correct, there should have been something more definite regarding his status.
I loved every episode of the first two seasons. And I agree with you: I saw the inferences, but again when I recall back in the series where she was texting, calling, and even having her lawyer call to get the signed divorce papers…it would’ve made more sense to me if he had just hopped out of the car, knelt down and put his arms out and had the boy run into them versus hauling a suitcase in the house - that was a little too pie in the sky for me.. I sincerely loved the first two seasons, enjoyed watching the third just for the references back, and of course Roy Kent (“I hate what you’ve done to me”, “make it stop”) died laughing there. Thoroughly enjoyable. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

The last episode was good, not great. Some of the plot endings were spot on and others left me wanting. They should’ve had Ted flat out get back with his wife. It was implied but not a slam dunk. They should’ve showed Beard staying on as an assistant coach. Rebecca, finding the airline captain was a nice touch. _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! I got to really enjoy the foreshadowing/set up with songs/artists/actors…like Zellweger and Julie Andrews..really hit me when they did “So Long, Farewell”. So many great nods to great actors, songs, movies in all the episodes. It really was a touch of nostalgia for me. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."
