Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
When I was a boy, Marty Robbins set my imagination loose. One day I hope to find this little cantina in el paso. This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it. -Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Joshua Painter Played by Senator Fred Thompson

That is the only album I've ever owned in all the common formats. Vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD and MP3.

My Mom and Dad had his gunfighter ballads album. I used to listen to it all the time... _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! The problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. - Margaret Thatcher Spread my work ethic, not my wealth

To be immediately followed by his "El Paso City" If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there. NRA ENDOWMENT LIFE MEMBER

For all of Dad's cross-country PCS moves that I was old enough to remember, the music in the car might as well have been limited to two "stations": Marty Robbins (Gunfighter Ballads) and Johnny Cash. Hated both then. Love both now.

I assume you mean here, because the song was released 17 years later. (and wasn't particularly good IMO) _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

Yes, in the song rotation. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there. NRA ENDOWMENT LIFE MEMBER

so you guys, once again I am amazed. Not only is there 'el paso city' there is also 'feleena (el paso)' as well. Further, I found there are two versions of el paso, one that has an extra verse that was not on the 'gunfighters disc' it was a single but because it was over 4 min, columbia worried it would not get radio play. Anyway, I have ordered the full version. After all these years, the things I learn on this forum This business will get out of control. Funny thing about this song, despite knowing every other song on the album well as a kid, I have no recollection of this song until I was an "adult". Maybe my dad just didn't like it? lol _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

The extra verse would have been the 5th, he shows some remorse over shooting the guy: Just for a moment I stood there in silence Shocked by the foul evil deed I had done Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there I had but one chance and that was to run This 4:43 live version includes the extra verse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAO7vs_Q9is

It may just be my fuzzy memory, but I swear I remember hearing (in an interview) the shorter version was just that, made shorter for the radio. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.
