Sad, but he had a good run. I didn't think he was going to be around long after seeing pictures of him last year. I went through the "Emergency" series last year; the stunt work he and Tighe did was incredible! That sort of thing was never repeated by lead actors ever again. They were bally, to say the least! There is a long but worth it interview he did for the Television Academy where he talks extensively about working on Emergency; very fascinating and worth one's time to watch:

Great show. I think Tighe is the only one still alive.

For those of us of that age who ever worked in the field, we never missed an opportunity to pop the tops off of Abboject syringes like Johnny and Roy did. Big Grin

"Emergency!" was another show that we watched every week back when the antenna could only pick up four channels (on a good day). I was watching a YouTube video of the cast about a month ago, perhaps two more cast members besides Robert Fuller and Kevin Tighe are still kicking who were actually county firefighters.

ETA: It wasn't this video, which is about 20 minutes long but is helpful. Not embedding, just posting the link. Lots of detail (and some errors and irritating ads).

My wife and I are still huge fans of Emergency!, we watch it occasionally on MeTV. Mantooth was not just an actor, but highly influential in the Emergency Medical Technician community, he has been an advocate and spokesman for various orgs for decades. Fun fact: after appearing on the show as an arrogant MD intern at Rampart, teen idol actor Bobby Sherman left Hollywood to become a paramedic, and in later years became a reserve officer for the LAPD and County Sheriff's Dept.

Yes he is,
I was putting Emergency in the same TV
category as Gun Smoke and Leave it to Beaver.

There is still a big market for 50 and 60 y.o.
tv shows.

I'd like to add, I thought long about the show after re-watching the series last year and realized not only did that show influence the toys I played with (I was 9 when it premiered) , but my life's work choice as well; I went on to become a physician...

He, himself, during the run I believe, was saved by firefighters from carbon monoxide poisoning at his home!

thanks for the thread. watched a video this morning, right after Hickock45, on Randy. I'll forgive the AI just this once. Amazing legacy and unique human being.

I always recall this episode Big Grin. And July London, "hello nurse".
