Myself and a buddy of mine had some down time, years ago while at work and this came on HBO. We never heard of it and don't remember any promotions for it on tv or radio. We thought it was great. Granted it is pure action for the sake of action but the constant reloads, camera angles, action sequences that didn't change angles due to poor choreography and ideas of a secret sect, was kind of neat and different. I don't remember many movies where the characters reloaded their guns after firing, after what seems like hundreds of rounds. I thought Keanu did a good job in it and he really put some time in with the training. Like others have said, action movies changed after that with many trying to copy it. Of course the guns were the main stars.

If only the SIGforum coins were offered in Gold, like those in JW.

I will not buy a gold JW coin, but would buy a gold SIGforum coin, to accompany my silver and pewter SIGforum coins.

I would also gladly buy a gold SF coin if offered. The SF founders should reap all profits.

This was investigated when the SIGcoins were made in copper and silver.

The minimum number for gold was not reached, likely because of the cost at that time.

They would have been beautiful.

I just rewatched my 4k BK of Ballerina, that is from the John Wick universe. It is a good modern action flick with a high body count. The flame thrower scenes are awesome. With these movies you know (or should know) going in what you are gonna see. If you can not check your brain at the door, and enjoy the carnage you might as well pass.

I enjoy the Wick series; they get more “super-hero” with each edition, but for me it’s mind candy.

The movies have received quite a bit of positive feedback from gun-guys because of the way combat is portrayed. Keanu committed quite a bit of time to learning the way of the gun, and I love a few of the scenes where he is using the same Keltec KSG that I have.

Love his shotgun work in this training video…

John Wick 1 was awesome. It goes downhill on subsequent releases I attribute to the lack of differentiating from the original. Still entertaining but it's just not new anymore.

saw the first on TV, mindless drivel of a movie,

but somewhat enjoyable,

saw the second in a crowded second run theater in NOVA, was not impressed,

I will give Kudos to Reeves, he did actually train on real range with real guns bullets etc for the role,

From what I've heard from gun shop owners, the John Wick sequels caused a lot of Glock 34 sales.

I used to watch all day kung fu movies in Oakland, CA next to the Pussycat theater. It was mindless fun and sometimes comedy. I still remember a scene where two Chinese characters were riding their horses through a hillside and there was a western background music.

Typical scenes would be the hero crossing a field with no trails only to cross paths with the villain who bears him up the first time. What were the chances?!

The John Wick movies are on that same level for me.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Ok, that made me spit coffee all over myself!! Big Grin

That too seems like a rather strange kink / fetish.

Lucky for John Wick, like most action movies these days, he only fights groups of bad guys who politely wait their turn to get beat up in sequence.

According to Google AI: The John Wick Kill Count Is 439 While this information shouldn't be all that surprising given the genre and plot of the movies, it is still a bit shocking to see that the protagonist single-handedly killed 128 people in one movie, making for a total John Wick kill count of 299 in the first three films.

If you really wanna turn red, watch the third one where they try to convince you that Halle Berry beats the shit out of several 200lb men. The punches are visibly weak, fake. It's really stupid, even with the beautiful dogs*(Gillis reference).

I did like the first two, I thought the combat was fun and interesting to watch, but Stahlski doesn't know when to stop.

It's worth noting the director is a longtime stuntman. Not exactly the Cohen brothers.

These films are more like an NSync dance performance than an actual narrative. It is nothing more than a vehicle for gun fight choreography.

I watched the first 3 when they were available on one of the streaming services. They were entertaining when I wanted down time with no thinking involved.

I thought some of the third movie was kinda creative: weaponizing a stable full of horses to kick bad guys in the head; and I thought Halle Berry's dogs were fun.
