How can he be too old when the show is about him growing up?

We enjoy the show but to be honest I could do without Sheldon.
We really like Annie Potts.

I also like Dr. Sturgis.

Never seen it. Does it have a laugh track? Laugh tracks make me want to punch a baby. My ex-wife insisted on watching Big Bang Theory, which definitely made me want to punch babies. Big Grin

That tends to happen to 14 year old. Wink

Google says the actor playing Young Sheldon is roughly the same age as the character. Both started out in Season 1 as ~9 years old, and are now both currently ~14 years old after 5 additional years/seasons.

The writers are intentionally cruel.

The father obviously loves his family (is treated like a buffoon), he is going to meet an end where he never sees his son, who he has steered into the right path receive his Nobel Prize and live on his own to great success. This leaves his devout Christian mother on her own with the children, which the daughter becomes a whore, the stupid son becomes a successful businessman after being a criminal with his grandmother.

Sheldon is a sociopath. He has zero empathy and harms others without understanding what he is doing. His close family (that the writers constant lampoon)prevented him from becoming a psychopath.

The little smart girl's family is broken up because she is smart, Sheldon tortures her emotionally to his own satisfaction, causing her to drop out of school. (he effectively eliminated his competition)

Sheldon is clearly functionally autistic (FSVO "functionally") or has Asperger's Syndrome. An inability to feel empathy, read social clues and body language, etc. often come along with those.

I guess that makes me a sociopath, too.

Near as I've been able to tell: Paige is usually the one to get the upper hand on Sheldon.

The father has to have an affair and die very soon according to timelines.

In the BBT Sheldon and his mom always made his dad out to be a worthless drunk, which he clearly isn't in Young Sheldon. He's a decent family man. Sheldon also says his grandfather got him into science and was a hard man to get along with for others, but that's not a thing here either.

But its a sitcom, and continuity is never a strong point in these.

In the BBT I never understood anyone being friends with Sheldon anyway, I get once you get to know him you see he isn't a bad guy, but how many would get that far. He is beyond just on the spectrum, he is a total selfish ass, and quite cruel and cold on many occasions. Of course I also think Penny is a stupid selfish skank too, so I guess I just don't get it at all.

The Dr lady was a much better match for Leonard than Penny.

While I never watched the original BBT, I read that Sheldon’s sister appears in two episodes. I think in the first she has a child and is getting a divorce. I believe the second episode is Sheldon’s weeding where she is unmarried and pregnant.

Adult Sheldon may also make reference to the fact in the narration of young Sheldon.

Respectfully disagree. Paige is making bad, teen-aged decisions and living with those consequences. Aside from fighting the "demons" within herself, I'd say if anyone is giving her a breakdown, it's her parents.

Ohhhhhh...this couldn't be more wrong. IF the word "whore" was used in ANY episode (and I don't recall that being the case..."hooker" was used several times, though Razz), but neither term was EVER used in reference to Missy.

In the first episode Missy appears in TBBT, she needs to get some signatures from Sheldon for some legal documents. At that time, she's single and ALL the guys hit on her with embarrassing results. The second episode in which she appears, Sheldon and Amy are indeed getting married and yes...she IS pregnant, but she and her HUSBAND are having marital difficulties. In fact, she states he is home "watching their other kids".

I'd suggest watching the series...I think it's HILARIOUS, since my brother is a Medical Physicist and he goes off the rails like Sheldon sometimes. Razz Razz I call his wife Amy Farrah Fowler sometimes...guilty by association. Big Grin Big Grin

So I did a bit of searching. Turns out it was used at least once, but, in reference to Sheldon's brother's new girlfriend, not Missy.

And she's smokin' hot, too!

I'd forgotten she was in the "The Matrimonial Momentum" episode, as well.

Good research, ensigmatic!! Cool

To add to the use of the term "whore", I remembered Walowitz's mother referring to Penny's friend as a whore or something to that effect when Howard brought home a hot, hot, hottie Christy Vanderbilt when she was visiting from Nebraska (ep 1.7). She referred to Wolowitz as "Hey look...my first Jew!". Big Grin Big Grin

It is Smile

Of course: Humor being in the eye/ear of the beholder: Not everybody agrees.

I took a pass for years, assuming it was almost certainly lame. Then, at a best friend's house for dinner, one night, the subject came up. "It's great," my friend claimed, and put up the episode that contained this:

That was it: I was hooked.

When the little neighbor girl died and Mary was questioning her faith in the church,

The scene with Sheldon and Mary on the the porch swing was some pretty great writing.

Just watched that episode.

Sheldon didn't provoke Paige into a meltdown. She was already headed there. What Sheldon did do, and so did Missy, was try to look out for her. That would normally be of out-of-character for Sheldon, but, he has a special affinity for Paige due to her intelligence.
