Spent most of this year enjoying k-romcoms and k-dramas.
Noticed most of the common places and clichés they use time and again as a bonus of familiarity with their way of making TV.
One of those K-things i had never seen elsewhere is how they use quite large stereo speakers as a symbol of authority and power. It’s very funny, for me.
Google agrees with me that it is “a thing” and not just my imagination.

The only easy recognizable speaker brand, for me, was a pair of Klipsch towers. Also saw a pair of omnidirectional speakers that look like a chocolate fountain. Saw those twice. The rest are so weird and unfamiliar.
They don’t seem to make product placement, at least not for those beasts.
Audio equipment is not displayed so evidently but for turntables. There are vinyls in small to huge quantities also everywhere. Amps are the valve kind, mandatory and mostly current but for a McIntosh here and there.

My sources are mainly Netflix and Disney+.

Well they have good taste in speakers then. This past Saturday, I took some audio gear up to my oldest son’s off campus apartment at the University of South Florida. Two, well three of the things in this picture are from 1986:

I’m gonna miss my first pair of Klipsch speakers. Frown We aren’t Korean though.

My understanding is that it is not necessarily "large stereo speakers" per se, but high end audiophile equipment in some Korean TV dramas like "Mine"

Enjoyed “Four hands, two sonatas” (Netflix) immensely. Highly recommended! A must, use external speakers or Home Theater audio to make the best of the musical scenes.

In this one, you’ll see the largest speakers ever on a private home/studio. Couldn’t find a pic online but surely they are way too large for the room and any listening distance.
On the top 3 of favorite Korean series so far, with It’s ok not to be ok” and “If life gives you tangerines”. Wife is currently using a new tangerine based EDP by Moschino…

I loved "It's okay to not be okay". I absolutely loved it. There are campy visuals, but the characters actually grow and the guy that plays the autistic brother is so good. I just loved that series.

My wife and I are working on Tangerines now actually.

I don't know if this is like saying "I liked Lord of the Rings" in that, of course you do, everyone does, but our top 5 probably also include:

Crash Landing on You - Highly recommended. Great use of North/South Korea, and the commentary on North doesn't pull any punches. Good show.
Vincenzo - HIGHLY recommended. The series ties itself up in a way that was very satisfying.

I've heard Mr Sunshine(?) is good but I haven't tried it yet. Hometown Cha Cha Cha was highly recommended but we thought it was just okay. Our Beloved Summer was another strong recommend but personally I felt it took tooooooo long to get going in a way that would get us connected. It really felt like a slog.

We saw most of them but will check those missing our list.
Crashlanding was fun.

Vincenzo (character) did a cameo on another series we watched but when we started the actual series my wife declared it was too over the top after the opening sequence…
Loved it, but that was the end for us. (When i got married, my testicles and remote control were handed to the spousal unit Wink. No regrets.) Big Grin

PS: No LOTR for me, thanks. Eek Big Grin. For some obscure, unexplainable reason, Back to the future, any Batman or Star Wars movie and LOTR put me to sleep immediately.

"It's okay to not be okay" is one of my favorites as well; I've watched it several times.

On NF, if you haven't seen already, you might try (I have an affinity for these actresses):
My mister
My love from the star
Extraordinary attorney woo
Queen of tear
A love next door

The Makanai (Japanese, not korean; very light but likeable)

Thank you.

These titles do not sound familiar.
Maybe not available this far south OR not spanish dubbed. A MUST for the wife. I don’t mind subtitles but must say some are way too short to read completely.

Check the Four hands…. Huge speakers Big Grin

^^^^^ checked your list, Kevin. Thank you very much.

Those dubbed, bottom half of the list, we’ve seen already. Those in Korean, unfortunately, we’ll skip until desperate and willing to read.

Will check those out, running out of options for the weekend.

Thinking about a food-porn thread but i forgot the name of the series i’m thinking about. One rich lady putting two famous chefs to compete in an outrageous match. Spectacular. Thinking also Korean.
