Very nice. I love this song. The way it changes from minor chords in the verse to the major chords in the chorus really make it soar.

I actually love Trace Adkins' version of this song. His baritone fits it really well. I have great memories of singing this song with my Dad a few months before he died with our cousin during a bluegrass jam.

Emmylou Harris. My personal favorite.

All fantastic versions of this classic. If I had to eke out a favorite, it would be Emmylou, as much for her voice as her accompaniment (Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs, and Jerry Douglas). The song works as well with a full suite of bluegrass instruments or just a couple, but the voice makes it.

When in doubt, mumble

Here's my favorite rendition. I know nothing about the fundraiser that showcased it several years ago; I used to see this on YouTube but it has been replaced by another video that does not show them performing it. I really like this video and their version of the song. It's simple and sad with pleasing harmonies, especially the sister's. I wish they had mixed her a little stronger throughout, the way it is when they reach the a cappella portion around the 3-minute mark.

And when I was searching for the 4 Proches version above, I came across this:

I don't remember this, but I was a fan of the TV show, and it's a pretty cool video rendition.

Cold on the Shoulder is such a great record. Tony, Bela Fleck, Vassar Clements, Sam Bush, Bobby Hicks, Jerry Douglas, JD Crowe, etc.

You are right Para. Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra does an excellent version of Wayfaring Stranger. Not bad for Norwegians!

I also really like the Emmylou Harris version.

And, of course, the version by Bill Monroe & His Bluegrass Boys should not be missed.

Enjoyed the Hayde version. Favorites of mine:
Rhiannon Giddons beautiful voice. Jack White from Cold Mountain soundtrack, Gritty, sells the pain and woe. Jos Slovick A Cappella from 1917 soundtrack.

That is good. Giddens is something else.

Rice's version is great, too. How can it not be? Tony Rice was playing guitar on it.

All the biggies of the Newgrass revolution. It is a great lineup.

YellowJacket, as soon as I read that my mind went right to Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle. Same great effect!
