Wanted to like the new Finscher movie but just can’t find any redeeming qualities to it. The photography and lighting is classic Finscher, no complaints there. Storytelling is also ok. But the script: Slow, dull, uninteresting and hollow. Fassbender is not my favorite actor by a long stretch. He is less expressive than a burned match. Caviezel is a squirrel high on glucose compared to him. Even as a replicant he bores me. I always pay particular attention to the movie scored and this only has several The Smiths songs. Never liked the band back then or now so no joy there. No gunplay worth noticing. Don’t waste your time. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

I watched it two days ago and was waiting for someone here to post about it.. thanks. I found it intriguing.... my complaints are the big fight scene in the middle was just totally stupid and did not match up with his character... When he opens the door the house alarm beeped and then he goes walking through the dark house and it is obvious the guy is going to jump him... just sit and wait.... I was going to do a spoiler... but will say the ending did not go with his profile either.... Oh and if he had used a full metal jacket round on that head shot he was taking it would have gone clean through the hooker and still hit the guy... FMJ first round followed by one that expands...if needed. My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

I watched it last night and had high hopes based on pre-release publicity. I was disappointed.

I guess if you are the type who doesn't appreciate a 1 to nothing pitcher s duel in baseball or expect every film to be stuffed with GCI or expected a John Wick fiasco or the type who loves auto-tune music >>>>>>> you probably aren't going to enjoy this flick.

I watched it over the weekend too. I had high hopes based on the trailer and ads. NOPE! It was just too slow & too quiet, other than his narration, which I also didn't like. I think they were trying to replicate the tone of a movie like "Mr. Brooks" with Kevin Costner---that was an amazing movie! The Killer did not come close to what it was hyped up as being. Inglorious Bastards, Shame, A Dangerous Method, Prometheus, 12 years as a slave. He’s done a number of outstanding performances. Played a pretty good Magneto in that XMen superho bullshit too. In fact his performances were the only redeeming qualities in those trash films. I’ll watch this, this week, and make an eval. Wasn’t a highly touted release, even before it was released. The dude has been too busy racing cars the last few years. He probably took this role to get a paycheck, so he could get right back on the track. What am I doing? I will probably see this sometime, I like Michael Fassbender as an actor. He was really good in Centurion and the last two Alien movies. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock "If there's one thing this last week has taught me, it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it." Watched it over the weekend. I kept thinking it was going to go somewhere, have a twist but it never did. It was all just a matter of fact, day in the life of a hit man. Maybe that was what they were going for. JC

It's not one of David Fincher's best, but I liked The Killer. It's solid neo-noir, with one foot in slower 1940s film noir storytelling. Michael Fassbinder is a dull but skilled killer that narrates constantly because that's how noir protagonists roll. I was kinda thinking maybe I should rewatch it with the color dialed down on my TV to make it even more moody. I don't think it was designed to be crowd pleasing, but as far as something to watch alone on a cold winter's night, it fits the bill fine. I loved that brutal fight scene. I'd like to see that in one of those Disney-Marvel movies instead of all the roundhouse kicks and energy beams. Screw four-quadrant programming.

I still would like to know if the round that hit the hooker actually missed the guy he was supposed to kill? Of course in the story it did... but it Seems to me if he was shooting a round the would go through that tempered glass with out changing trajectory then it would also pass through the hooker and have probably hit the guy... I'm going to have to go back and watch that part again. My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

I thought the movie was very watchable. I went in with low expectations due to this thread and someone telling me it was awful. It exceeded my expectations especially considering what it was meant to be. I’m glad I watched it. _________________________ "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last” - Winston Churchil

I'll have to say it though... if he had just chambered another round and taken a second shot... well then that would have been the end of the movie. Oh, and what was the deal with shooting sub sonic and needing a suppressor.... as if he was going to be hiding out after the kill or anyone was going to be able to determine where the shot came from and react? I enjoyed it. If you go into it expecting a non-stop, edge of the seat, action-adventure thrill ride loaded with explosions, fast cuts, and CGI, you're going to be disappointed. It's more like a slow, methodical spy film. In fact, I agree with the above sentiment that the big action sequence brawl in the middle of the film actually felt out of place in the overall film's pace and tone.
