I know and if I get into deep critiquing of it that does not really go with who he was... just like the fight scene... I don't think a refined hit man like him would have just walked into that dark house.... just wait for the guy to walk out to feed his dog and shoot him in the head. I thought it did. It was a rough scene to show what he is capable of when needed. He covered the “eating exactly what is necessary” thing with the McDeez protein, etc, getting called slim etc. His diet, his lifestyle, and even fighting, he’s ready, from slowing heart rate down to snipe, to fighting. Fassbender has always been in excellent shape. Thin but lean muscle mass so I bet he did not even have to workout in preparation for the film. Anyway, the scene showed that he is indeed capable of whatever is necessary. It fit to me, in spades. Through discipline and his mind being thoroughly fit, he can take on someone way past his weight class and come through it, with obvious signs from the encounter. He keeps repeating mentally “no empathy” and several times he teeters on this only to ultimately follow his discipline in the end. Doing what is necessary. I was quite surprised by the film given the comments here. I was locked in from the beginning until the end. In the beginning it was monotonous, slow, but listening to the narration that was the point. That it would take absolute discipline and even a great line about how physically tiring doing nothing can be. I smiled when that line came across. Once the shot went off from the rifle I was locked in until the credits. And that’s rare these days. Many films have lost me within 30 minutes. Fassbender played a cold, calculating killer, and played it well. His narration is throughout but actual lines or dialog in the film with other actors was minimal. He acted mostly with his face, expressions, body movement, and that cold, calculating stare. That’s very difficult to do and be believable. Like uh, what comes to mind, Tom Hanks, in Cast Away. I thought his performance was typical Fassbender, excellent. I very much liked the film and very familiar with Fincher’s previous work. For a direct to streaming film, top marks. Definitely exceeded expectations. Makes my top 10 list for the year. A nice change from the boom boom, explosion CGI bullshit. A change from a killer taking on 20 or 30 people at once, high speed car chase scenes. The scooter was great. I’m off to watch Drinker’s review now that I’ve seen it, didn’t want spoilers, where I bet he has a similar take. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone | |||
