I actually did hear this again fairly recently, but yeah it's a good one. I remember everyone was buying CB radios after this.

Yup. It’s on my ITunes.

In the 70’s, Radio Shack sold an album called “Put the Hammer Down” which had this song on it.

Man, I played that album to death when I was a kid. Actually have it recreated with iTunes now.

The chorus always sounded a little too phoofey to me for a truck driving song. Big Grin

(we are overdue for a truck driving song thread, though I'm sure there are those who will disagree) Wink

All of those are great and I couldn't be less Trucker if I tried, but that stuff and Smokey and the Bandit / East Bound and Down are etched deep in me.

Yeah, me too. I grew up watching movies like this (and some 'trucker' TV shows - I think "Moving On" and "BJ and the Bear.". .).

I have this song on my ipod (I don't listen to the radio while driving, and I don't have any streaming music.

I watched part of Smokie/Bandit II the other day - OMG that was WORSE than I remember it (and I saw it in the theater).

I haven't seen Convoy in at least 35 years. I do recall it was a good one, but I was much younger then, and of course it was an entirely different era.

This song has been in my phone playlist for years. I was heavily into the CB craze way back when.

There are versions of this on Youtube with cleaner, more clear audio, but for some reason this just sounds right. I guess because it's the way I always heard it. Smile

This thread started about C. W. McCall, so here's my second most bestest favorite of him:

Wolf Creek Pass

True story. A long time ago I was traveling around Colorado by myself. A couple interesting things happened to me in the vicinity of Pagosa Springs, CO. Here’s one.

I was sitting in a cafe in Pagosa and two truck drivers were sitting at the table next to me. We started talking. They were there because the night before they laid their truck on its side up on Wolf Creek Pass.

One of them was at the wheel, the other in the sleeper. The driver didn’t gear down enough on the downhill side descending into Pagosa. He was losing it and (he said) the tractor ran off the left side of the road, the tires kicked up a rock, and the rock disconnected the hose to the trailer. Now he was really in trouble and he laid it over.

I couldn’t tell how soon after the C.W. McCall song this all happened, but I know the song was all I could think about as we talked.

I grew up with this stuff.
There were several 8 tracks of truck driving songs around the house when I was a kid.
I even got to drive with Dad for a bit after I got back from college. It was the most father/son we ever had together. I enjoyed the pure Dee ever loving shit out of it.
