Purveyor of Fine Avatars |
I thought it strange that they had him using an English accent. Just let him use his natural Kiwi accent. I got a Million of 'em! |
I started it last night, two in, and I’m liking it so far. With Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen producing it from a Garth Innis comic, I was hoping it would give me my Preacher fix until the last season of that comes out but it’s a little more by the numbers than Preacher but still good.

I am 4-episodes in and enjoying it. Trying to avoid spoilers, but just checking in.

I dug it. Finished last night. Liked the ending well enough. This is a MINOR MAYBE NOT EVEN A SPOILER BUT BE WARNED NON THE LESS. There were a few scenes with a very obvious fly/insect flying around/buzzing noise. How much do you want to bet we find out that is a tiny supe’. Maybe even the guy who went for the “ahem” “DIVE” in the bar in the first episode. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

Yes I was thinking the same thing, the fly was very obvious. I thought we would find out who it was, it was in several scenes. Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

I got a Million of 'em! |
I finished it over the weekend. Episode four is so many kinds of messed up, it’s not even funny. Well, one part is funny if you have a dark sense of humor like me. I liked it and can’t wait to see where they go with season two.

Darkly, cynically entertaining. Well produced and acted too. My wife and I will watch the 8th and final episode tonight. Edited to note that I think the title of the show is pretty weak and non-descriptive.

Fighting the good fight |
It's based on a comic book of the same title, in which the CIA-sponsored superhero-monitoring unit run by Butcher is called "The Boys". As in "The Boys and I will handle it". Or "we'll see what The Boys can come up with". They use that reference in passing a couple times in the show, but it's much less obvious than it is in the comics. Their connections to the CIA are also a lot more tenuous in the show than they are in the comics.

Thanks, that helps and makes sense. I certainly respect ties to the comic book series...but the connections in the Amazon series are insufficient.

Finished it last night. Very well done, if dark, deeply cynical movies with occasional major violence is not your thing, take a pass. Very well acted for the most part. And they are wide open for season 2 and can go in so many directions.

I’m up to Episode 3 and very impressed with the series. Good writing, acting, production values, and while it’s certainly violent, I like the theme! Very different from the usual “super hero” story! Interesting. If you watched The Incredibles (Pixar) you can see where they got this idea.

Get my pies outta the oven! |
It really bugs me when movie makers/TV series makers don't take the time to do any sort of explanation of the backstory from the book or comic, it's like they just assume everyone knows which is not right. I just saw Ready Player One and a better explanation of the OASIS would have helped, just a minute or two even. Not all of us read the damn book.

I thought RP1 did a great job of fleshing out the VR world and how it got developed and what it was etc. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

I did not see that coming at the end. ___________________________ "I Get It Now" Beth Greene

I wasn't sure what to think as I'm not a big fan of the superhero franchise movies, but I enjoyed this. No spoilers, but that was a world class curve they threw at the end. Now, I can't wait for the next season. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

I just watched the season finale last night and agree 100% about the "curve." What a great series!!! Finally a "superhero" movie for adults!!! The acting, writing, direction, production values were all great, as was the fact that although there were special effects, they certainly were few enough in numbers as to not drown out the character developments and plot. I'm looking forward to Season 2 eagerly! "I'm not fluent in the language of violence, but I know enough to get around in places where it's spoken."

I loved his accent in Thor: Ragornok Thanks for all the positive posts. I'm going to check this out. “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. Mencken
