I had to get off Facebook. Everybody uploading memes about calipers, and measurements etc. the conspiracy guys are going nuts.

I am glad Max was in good form and had a solid race. I do wish Tsunoda could get things sorted and do better.

I really hate the Ferrari problems. It would be really cool to see what Leclerc and Hamilton would do with a good car . . . that would be hella fun to see them up front with RB, Merc, McLaren . . .

Well with all the talk about Norris and Piastri choking, now McLaren does it by running the cars to low! It's like they want Verstappen to win the Driver's Championship and 3rd in the Constructor's. I know they get their money from winning the Constructor's, but this is going to be a massive failure if a McLaren driver can't stop Max.

Not just too low but not enough gas in Lando's car. That may be why he couldn't make a run at Max earlier but they just thought they could manage it.
Either way, a big FU.
McLaren still has the benefit of having two cars in with a good chance, as long as they don't battle each other too much.

Lando just needs to keep his nose clean. Oscar needs to take some risks to finish ahead of Max & close the gap to Lando.

In the newest shakeup for 2026:

Aston Martin appoints Newey as team principal from 2026

Adrian Newey will become a team principal for the first time when he takes over the role from Andy Cowell at Aston Martin in 2026.

Aston Martin signed Newey as managing technical partner earlier this year, working alongside Cowell who was previously CEO and team principal. However, the pair have now “agreed to divide their responsibilities” according to the team, with Cowell becoming chief strategy officer while Newey leads the team for the first time in his career.

“Over the last nine months, I have seen great individual talent within our team,” Newey said. “I’m looking forward to taking on this additional role as we put ourselves in the best possible position to compete in 2026, where we will face an entirely new position with Aston Martin now a works team combined with the considerable challenge faced by the new regulations.

“Andy’s new role, focusing on the integration of the new PU with our three key partners, will be pivotal in this journey.”

Cowell’s new position will see him reporting into team owner Lawrence Stroll – who leads the business functions at Aston Martin – and focus on the integration of new technical partners.

“Having implemented much needed structural changes as we transition to a full works team and set the foundations for Adrian and the wider organization, it is an appropriate time for me to take a different role as chief strategy officer,” Cowell said. “In this role, I will help to optimize the technical partnership between the Team, Honda, Aramco and Valvoline and to ensure the seamless integration of the team’s new PU, fuel and chassis.”

Stroll himself praised Cowell’s work to date, having only signed the former Mercedes High Performance Powertrains (HPP) boss last year.

“Andy Cowell has been a great leader this year,” Stroll said. “He’s focused on building a world-class team and getting them to work well together, as well as fostering a culture that puts the race car back at the heart of what we do. This leadership change is a mutual decision we have reached in the interest of the team. We all look forward to continuing working with him in his new capacity as chief strategy officer.

“I’m also pleased that Adrian Newey will step into the team principal role, which will enable him to make full use of his creative and technical expertise. Both these changes will ensure the team is best placed to play to their collective strengths.”

Newey will become the fourth Aston Martin team principal in the last four years, following Otmar Szafnauer, Mike Krack – who remains with the team as chief trackside officer – and Cowell.

This looks like the more intelligent choice between the two, shockingly for Aston.

I'm waiting to see how tolerant Newey is of the performance...or lack thereof...of Lance.

Going into developing a car to new regulations, it is highly important to get accurate feedback.

Alonso is very good at this, but his default is to adapt his driving and drive around chassis weaknesses. Lance wants the car to be suited to his style

That was my thought as well but upon further consideration I think that at least part of the reason Newey left Red Bull was the off court behavior of Horner and I suspect that Newey was able to convince Papa Stroll that he could do a better job than Horner.

I firmly believe that Newey is a brilliant engineer but there’s a huge difference between managing a group of engineering nerds and dealing with all the other aspects of running a team etc.

I do wish him well and I’ll be looking forward to watching him next season.

As a complete offshoot of this topic my niece told me this afternoon that the company she works for has just signed a (small) sponsorship agreement with AM F1!

Not surprising to see Cowell get more involved in the powertrain end of the team. That was his main function at Mercedes and it made sense while bringing Honda onboard.
Newey has a great analytical mind and depth of experience with successful teams going way back.
Should be interesting to see how the fits into this role.

Would be great if Newey can put AMR in the fight. And if Cadillac can come out swinging. Have all the factory teams duking it out.
1/2 the grid will be factory teams, RBR & Williams being the likely/expected competitive customer teams. RBR being the outlier with making their own PU with Ford.

Oscar isn't giving up. P1 for Sprint Qualy with Norris 3rd and Verstappen further back. Tsunoda is running about the same pace, so it looks like the Red Bull doesn't like this track very much.

Wouldn't be surprised if Yuki's car had the boost up to max output so he's in a position to help.
Max hasn't been too happy with his car so far but they can't do much until after the Sprint race to make it better.
Then there's the 25 lap maximum tire rule for this race, adding a 2nd pit stop for everybody. Should be interesting to see if Lando is extra cautious or not.

I thought the strategy was interesting. Also, the ability of RB to adjust on the fly by taking the pit stop quickly at lap 7 while McClaren was wondering what to do snowed the depth of the RB team.

Yeah, staying out seemed a mistake, but at the risk of being forced into 2 max lap stints.

Everyone except McLaren managed to adjust on the fly and pit under the SC on lap 7. McLaren had the same chance as everyone else, and could have chosen to pit at least one car, but they didn’t. Between this race and the LV DSQ, the team has screwed their drivers over hard.

Very little action and a lot of fun.
Constant tension with the players ebbing and flowing and the changing implications for the finale. It's McLaren's to lose.
