He was in the movie Broadway Melody of 1936 and danced with his sister Vilma. His first appearance on film. She was his partner. She eventually gave it up but he stayed in show business. He started as a dancer and later played all kinds of roles.

IIRC he was supposed to be the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz, but had a severe reaction to the silver paint.

I get a kick out of seeing Ebsen dance and then seeing reruns of Barnaby Jones on MeTV, where he snipes all the bad guys with a pencil barrel S&W Model 10.
