I was in England earlier in May, and dropped-in to The Farmer's Dog for a pint and something to eat. Luckily it was during the middle of the week, the couple next to me on the terrace let me know the place on the weekend is crazy busy, especially now that the weather has warmed-up. Clarkson apparently is a major landowner in that region, quite pretty and I see the attraction of the Cotswolds. Oh, and Hawkstone beer is quite good, especially the lager.

Boy, and I think I had problems with self-imposed deadlines! All that drama, people leaving—all because he just had to open the Farmer’s Dog by the Bank Holiday (I guess like our Labor Day). Another week or two and everything would have gone smoothly, but we can’t have that, can we? Well, he probably made up for it in the money he gets for the show. Wife and I are really impressed with the local help he gets: honest tradesmen who work through the night to get his pub open; the women who set up the pub who left because they couldn’t deal with Jeremy; the chef who produced these amazing dishes and who pushed at every turn to get what he needed. Then there’s the farmer’s co-op people who are smart, experienced, and very articulate about the hard life of British farming. Well, it’s hard everywhere, but with the UK climate….

I LOVE this show. Local farming is critical and not given the protections/support its needed more or less everywhere. Jeremy can be a jerk and certainly puts people through the wringer for the same of his show but IMO his focus on this CRITICAL point makes up for this in spades.

Mistake not my current state of joshing gentle peevishness for the awesome and terrible majesty of the towering seas of ire that are themselves the milquetoast shallows fringing my vast oceans of wrath.
