"The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with immense sadness the death of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation," it said in a statement to the French news agency Agence France-Presse. Bardot had been hospitalized briefly in late October at Saint-Jean Hospital in Toulon, where she underwent a minor surgical procedure, according to a statement from her office to AFP. I was watching Helen of Troy (1956) with Rossana Podestá in the main role just last week. Miss Podestá was a beautiful young lady but when her slave girl came on, I knew I’d have been more interested in launching my ship for her rather than Helen. Though I didn’t recognize her right away, I discovered minutes later that it was a very young Miss Bardot in her first movie shot outside of France. I only knew of Bardot in the 1960s as a kid due to her "sex kitten" reputation, but I have watched a lot of films in my life, never seen one with Brigitte Bardot. But I read about her animal rights work, and she put a lot of her own money and her entire life into her cause after acting.
