I've heard of the series but it was never available to me until recently (it's on netflix for anyone interested).

I thought I would like it based on the high level premise. But I don't. I don't like the main character - she's just not likeable in any way. And I'm not sure that she's good at her job, whatever that might be. At least not at the level she thinks she is.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Morena (Jessica) - always like her. She's captivating. But hated the family scenes - what a fucking messed up daughter. Why? Is that important to the storyline? Same as in The Unit - why is a fucked up daughter important to storylines like this?

Disappointing. I was looking forward to finally watching the series but I've lost interest after 2 episodes. Maybe I was expecting too much.

Goofy Claire Daines ruined that series IMO. She's in a new series on Netflix (I think) where she plays a very similar crazy character. Kind of ruined that one too.

I enjoyed the series personally, but it's been a while since I watched it. I do like her though (Claire Danes), so that's probably the difference.

I honestly can’t think of any female lead that could play the role as well as she did. We have the new Netflix one in our watchlist and will get to it eventually.

^^^^. It's a good story, and Matthew Rhys (The Americans) does a great job, but I just can't stand her character. No need for the over-the-top craziness IMO as it takes away from the plot. To each his own though. I hope you like it.

I think Season 1 is fantastic. Actually, I think it’s very good anytime Danes’ character is on her meds. It’s very difficult in the seasons when she is not. I think Lewis and Patinkin are great in the show, as is F Murray Abraham. It’s got a great tension like good spy stories. Carrie being bipolar/manic is a tough plot line to pull off because the show needs to be as chaotic as her brain is, but it’s what makes her great at her job, too.

I thought the whole series was great and her portrayal of someone with mental illness is very believable. At the time it was made much of the series was what was happening in the world.

I think I watched four seasons of Homeland, way back when. I thought Claire Daines was good in the unhinged way she played the mental health part of the role. The character Damian Lewis played really bugged me. I guess that means he's a good actor. It was a few years later when I found out what a TDS asshole Mandy Patinkin is. That likely means I'll not go back and finish it. That shit bugs me. Oh well.

FYI, the Claire Daines/Matthew Rhys series is "The Beast In Me."

I watched the first coupla' episodes. Probably watch the rest of it.

My wife and I are watching The Beast in Me. She likes it, I’m indifferent. There are several posts about Claire Daines, and I generally agree, some of the characters she plays (or maybe her) are off putting. If you’re interested at all though, check out her portrayal of autistic savant, Temple Grandin, emeritus professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University and world-renowned expert on low stress livestock management. Daines was excellent in the title role.

Homeland was a great series and Claire Danes played her part very well. Flawed personally CIA agent with brilliant intuition.

I watched the entire series several years ago. While I didn't particularly care for her character, Danes played it to perfection. I need to re-watch it.

I think the acting of all seems above par. However, I'm not in the industry so I don't watch for the craftmanship. I watch for the story (of course, if the craftsmanship sucks, I may not watch it).

The problem here is that I don't like any of the characters. I find them somewhat despicable w/o redeeming qualities. If the character is telling an amateur, untrained "asset" that she'll be okay and will be protected and then does jack shit leading to her death, that's despicable. Yes, the stakes may be high but send in a trained agent then. All the more reason to do so.

And that the main character has a terminable condition that she's trying to keep secret, possibly at the expense of other lives, just because she believes she's is 'good' at her job (self proclaimed, not sure there is evidence she's any better than others that would be in her position) just shouts of entitlment 'me me me' which is just unappealing.

Obviously the show has a following given multiple seasons. Good acting and good portrayals of flawed characters. It's just not for me. I can't watch something when I hate all the characters, including the 'good' guys.
