Just finished The Tartan Pimpernel , an autobiography that I picked up when we were in Scotland recently. Donald Caskie was a minister of the Scots Kirk in Paris when the Germans invaded France and Paris itself in 1940. He fled Paris to Marseilles and became a key part of a network of safe houses and escape routes for Allied soldiers and airmen trapped in occupied France. He is credited with aiding in the escape of more than 500 Allied service personnel to flee France. Later, he was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death, but a German pastor interceded and appealed to Berlin for his life; the appeal was successful. He remained a prisoner for the remainder of the War. Good story. _______________________________________________________ despite them

I'm on the fourth book of the Terminal List series. Yeah, I know. I can watch it for free on Prime, and save myself a bunch of time, but I just like books. Maybe I'll watch it after I finish the books. ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." Bumping an old thread… As much as I enjoy the James Bond films, I’ve never taken the time to read any of the Fleming books. Starting now with Casino Royale, and assuming I like it moving onto From Russia with Love or Goldfinger. With all respect to Sean Connery, Daniel Craig is my Bond. ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Stop in the Name of God by Charlie Kirk. Excellent book on the importance of incorporating a Sabbath into your life in some form. In other words taking a break from digital and other social media in order to collect your thoughts and maintain your mental health in an increasingly crazy world!

"The Zorg - A Tale of Greed and Murder That Inspired the Abolition of Slavery". The story of one slave ship and the English slave trade in the 1870s. It's excellent but it's also raw, Siddarth Kara pulls no punches. I was given this book as a gift from a good friend that always picks something that makes you think. "Nature scares me" a quote by my friend Bob after a rough day at sea.

Recently re-read The Illiad for the first time since high school, and enjoyed it immensely. Currently on The Odyssey. Have Beowulf on the way. I'm enjoying these a lot! _________________________ "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.
