T-48 hours until Metallica at the Vegas Sphere Thursday and Saturday nights.

Ridiculously overpriced steak house and cigar bar Friday night.

AAR to follow…

Anyone else going?

I was in Vegas last week and saw the announcements everywhere…that will be one heck of a show, but completely cost prohibitive for me!

I hope you enjoy it - steak and cigars to boot sound awesome!!

That’s crazy, is that for one show or both?

I was fortunate to be able to get in early on a package deal. Tickets to both shows, and 3 nights at the Venetian Hotel

Sounds like a blast! I have an Eagles ticket at the Sphere in November, really looking forward to checking that venue out.

Good music, but Metallica mostly lost me back in the Napster days.

What’s interesting, is that as much as I can’t stand Lars, ultimately he was right.

Artist don’t make money from putting out a new album and streaming, they’re only real source of income is licensing, concerts and merchandizing.

Two things I forgot to mention at a Metallica concert:

1) If you save you ticket stub, you will get a free MP3 download of the entire concert at LiveMetallica.com

2) I'm not sure if they still do it, but if you have Bluetooth ear pro, download an app on your phone called MIXhalo. When you're at the concert, hook your phone up to wifi called MIXHalo and you'll be able to choose what each band member is hearing in his headset. It's not required, but it's very cool.

I saw U2 at the Sphere during their residency and it is a super cool venue. The sound was excellent and the visuals were spectacular.

I saw advertisement when we were there in February and I looked to ticket prices, and it was too much for my taste.

Night 1 in the books. Hell of a setlist, looking forward to tonight's part2.

Random observation - I read somewhere that Lars was hesitant to do this because he feared a subdued crowd focused more on the visuals than the band - he was not wrong. The guys are all in their 60's and their hardcore fanbase are mostly 50+...not as much moshing in the pit and folks were getting mad at people who stood up (because they blocked the screen).

I don't know if there is another concert I would go to here.

100% the Sphere is about the visuals. Awesome venue when the band is that old

Q: How bad was it trying to get out of the place after the concert ended? Wink

Not as bad you you might guess. the package I purchased included a room at The Venetian so I never had to go outside. It was a pretty simple walk back.

Sounds like the same package we bought but, when I saw the crowd walking inside and back to the hotel (nut-to-butt, twelve wide, and 300 feet deep) all I saw was a fire trap full of dead bodies.

We elected (poorly) to walk around [outside] instead of waiting in the lobby for the crowd to disperse.

Two hours 10 minutes for the Thursday show

Two hours on the dot for the Saturday show. They also took significantly more breaks between songs on the second show.

The overall sound was incredible, not muddled at all. Some of their song selections I thought were wasted minutes, but others around me were super excited.

I think it’s generational. “My” Metallica is pre-Black Album (Fuel, Enter Sandman) and I thought they played too many songs from the newer albums.

It’s the fans of the newer albums though, that allow Metallica to remain relevant and popular enough to sell out 12 weeks of the Sphere.

All said, very happy I went. I would have had a lot of FOMO if I hadn’t.

The YouTube videos are cool, but don’t do justice to the visual and sound experience.

I would love to take my son to the show as we are both big fans of the band. Maybe someday before they get to old to perform.
