Yeah, I know. I am YEARS late to the party. But I'm finally closing this cinematic chapter. I'm about halfway thru, and I have questions.

Namely, how did John get so clueless? I mean I am no SF operator, but I think I would know better than to go into the favellas (or whatever they are called in Mexico...barrios?) without some sort of plan. Seems like the more "civilized" Rambo is, the more he gets screwed over in the beginning. Just seems very out-of-character for him.

My question in all these movies/video games is how many of your buddies corpses have to pile up before you are like “time out!!! I’m out!!! Screw this, I left the oven on, gotta feed the hogs, no harm no foul you sir have a wonderful rest of your day”

Yeah, I think when that lead vehicle hit the mine, as cartel leader my new task is to back off and maybe reassess my plan of action. Big Grin

Last Blood ruined the characterization of Rambo for me. Correct me if I'm wrong, b/c I don't think I ever watched Rambo 3 all the way through, but were there other previous instances of Rambo torturing and drawing out the deaths of his enemies? Rambo is supposed to be an efficient killer. He kills out of necessity, for protection, or to complete a mission. He doesn't do it for enjoyment. And that's where Last Blood went wrong. It turned John Rambo into a sadist.

When he blows his massive tunnel system, it shows he could have taken out the cartel caravan in one fell swoop. Instead, he takes them out one-by-one w/ his Home Alone traps to draw out their suffering. If we think back to First Blood and how Rambo having PTSD from the torture he received in Vietnam was an important plot point, it makes his evolution into a sadist even more unsettling & insulting.

Honestly neither this one or the previous reboot be match the originals toneally and I’ve never liked either as much, but just taken on their own they are decent action flicks.

Honestly First Blood is the only “good movie”. The rest are all just action flicks no more no less.

I like all the Rambo movies but my favorite is Rambo 2008. The theatrical release not the watered down extended cut. Rambo is on earth to kill a bunch of motherfuckers and I'm good with that.

I didn't take it as him being sadistic. As he told Paz Vega (over and over) he just wanted them to feel the pain he was experiencing (though obviously for a much briefer duration). I'm still at a loss to explain how a near mute loner suddenly became Father Knows (how to kill with knives) Best.

Crucifying a man and cutting out his heart while he's conscious & w/o anesthesia isn't sadistic? Roll Eyes
OK then, let's draft a proposal to incorporate that in states w/ capital punishment, b/c it clearly isn't cruel & unusual.

I believe he achieved that when he decapitated Vega's brother.

I remember him killing a fuckton of MF'ers in that movie w/ ruthless efficiency, but I don't remember him torturing anyone.

Sadists derive pleasure from inflicting pain, and it didn't (to me) come across as him getting off doing it. It wasn't so much as to make Rambo feel 'good' as it was to make Cartel Guy feel 'bad' for the last minute or so of his life.

Paz Vega is the chick. The one whose sister got killed by the cartel. And the killing of the brother (I assume) was more to get the other brother to come across the border after him.
