I just watched the Netflix movie "Unabomber" that dropped this week. Russell Crowe plays a professor/psychologist that conducts an experiment on the future serial killer ("Unabomber") Ted Kaczynski who's attending the university as a 16 year old sophomore. Supposedly these experiments were conducted at the request of the CIA.

While the docudrama is split what's happening to the young future terrorist and the FBI's attempt to find him decades later, the focus on the young Kaczynski is an area that's not really been presented before and I found it interesting. Russell Crowe presents the villainous professor with as much realism and complexity as he did playing Hermann Goering in last year's release of "Nuremburg."

Overall, it was a good movie and Mrs. Pulicords was as engaged with it as I was. Highly recommend it!

I find the Unabomber story very interesting and eerily disturbing. We all know that the .gov has done a lot of shady shit, and most of us by now know that back in the day, they researched phenomena like ESP, precognition, remote viewing, etc etc etc.

Before learning the very little I know about quantum, I just assumed they broke poor Ted, he went off into the woods with his brain sparking and smoking, and the rest is history. But given the subject matter of his manifesto, and where we are now in this fucking craaaayzeee world, I've concluded that there's perhaps a non-zero percent plausibility to his having seen visions of the future.

How could he ever communicate such things convincingly. Impossible. In the end, he was too broken to effect any change beyond pain and suffering for those he hurt.

Interesting fact, the most prominent computer scientist attacked turned out to have tied to Epstein. Like I said... craaaayzeee world.

I watched the Netflix about him. He died by suicide in prison at 81. For being a bright guy, his mind sure got screwed up.

I didn't know he'd died by suicide until watching this movie and afterwards learned a bit more about it. Apparently he suffered through RECTAL CANCER for several months and received chemo treatment until May 2023. At that time, he declined further treatment due to "unpleasant side effects and a poor prognosis."

After discontinuing treatment, his prison oncologist noted he was "depressed" and was referred for a psychiatric evaluation. On June 10th of 2023, he was found to hung himself with a shoelace. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead about eight hours later.

Too bad-so sad! This was one evil bastard!! No bad feelings about how miserable his last few months were from my prespective. Roll Eyes

I haven’t seen the movie, but I have read a book or two about the man.

Not that it applies to anyone here, but I find it interesting that no matter how evil someone may be, there will always be people who will find excuses for them.

The “government” did bad things to him so it was understandable that he would maim, cripple, and murder people he had never set eyes on. She was depressed by having children so it was understandable that she murdered them. He was aware that some people’s health claims were denied, so it was understandable that he would murder the CEO of a company that he had no personal affiliation with. Some members of a religious group made too much money doing things that others didn’t want to do or couldn’t do, so it was understandable that other members of the group should be exterminated. ...

I thought it was good, and better than expected. Crowe was excellent.

I watched it last night and found it well worth the time.
Now I'm curious as to how factual the story actually is.

There's a 4-episode documentary series also on Netflix titled, UNABOMBER - In His Own Words. I recommend watching it as a companion piece to the UNABOMBER dramatization.

If you're referring to Manhunt: UNABOMBER, I watched it this past weekend and didn't think much of it. It was released in 2017. It focuses much more on FBI profiler Jim Fitzgerald than it does the UNABOMBER. Only one of the eight episodes delves into the mind of Ted Kaczynski. I could have done w/o the romantic subplot.

On the whole, the series took a lot of inspiration from Michael Mann's Manhunter to put politely with Kaczynski portrayed as a poor man's Hannibal Lector.
