It looks like something I will like but I can turn my brain off. Brain on, lemmee get this straight we are going send just two idjits to guard the literal mouth of hell. Cslinger raises hand “counter point……”.
I am betting it will be a bit of “cabin in the woods” where the folks sent are really more sacrifices. That said it looks fun.

I have watched it a couple times already and it is a pretty good movie. It has a lot going for it-drama, action, horror, etc. and has a good cast. A lot of neat guns/action to boot.
I looked forward to watching this based on the previews. The story line of them guarding a gate to Hell was intriguing and probably would have made a great movie. Of course Hollywood had to mess with this premise and create a much poorer product. Disappointing. Not a horrible movie but it could have been so much better.

For a mindless action flick, it's passable, if a bit slow. Some cool guns. A few scenes with neat-looking visuals. Plot and acting were nothing to write home about. Lots of unintentionally funny/goofy/over-the-top stuff. The girlfriend and I had a running "MST3K"-style commentary going making fun of the film, which made it fun.
Not the worst movie I've seen by a long shot, but don't go out of your way to watch it.
1.) How did the two main characters not get contaminated from being in the gorge, engaging in hand-to-hand combat with the Hollow Men, and touching all the other radioactive goop in the gorge?
2.) How could Signourney Weaver and her team not get away in a helicopter from the nuclear explosion but the two main characters were able to outrun it into the forest, while one of the main characters even had a leg injury causing him to limp?

I enjoyed it but two things annoyed me, haha.
1) There was a throwaway line in the film reel exposition about how they discovered some folks were immune to short duration exposure (hours, not days). But more importantly, they weren't contaminated because the writers wanted them to go live happily ever after.
2) They knew it was coming and were already nearly 4 kilometers away from the blast when they triggered it. They only had to sprint the last few hundred meters to get outside the danger zone (4.2 km, IIRC?) during the 2 minute countdown. Whereas the helicopter group was basically at ground zero when it triggered and had the same 2 minutes to get away, most of which was wasted just trying to get down the tower and into the helicopter, leaving not enough time to actually fly far enough out of the danger zone. But again, mostly the same reason as I listed in #1: Being caught in a nuclear blast would preclude the fairy tale ending. Or maybe not, as they had already repeatedly demonstrated that they were both clearly completely fireproof after being subjected to repeated adjacent fiery explosions throughout the earlier parts of the film, without even a singed hair.
Now stop trying to apply facts and logic to an over-the-top, campy sci-fi popcorn flick...
