Noting the way the players would sit down at the start and "arrange" their pieces, typically just centering them all on the squares. I played a guy once in DC who "arranged" his pieces so none of them were in the center of the square. Some were centered between the corners, but against one side of the square. Some were tucked all the way into different corners. Just one of the weird things about playing tournament chess at that (city) level. That and an otherwise quiet room full of a few dozen ticking clocks. When in doubt, mumble

They screwed up some timeline though. They had her listening to Venus by Shocking Blue a year before it was released. This is where my signature goes.

Finished it with the wife. One of the better one's we've seen in a while. Worth the watch.

I just finish binging it. Great on several levels including the lack of nudity. A gun in the hand is worth more than ten policemen on the phone. The American Revolution was carried out by a group of gun toting religious zealots.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the series too. My only complaint is that it was too short.

That was a good show. The aesthetics--including the actress, her outfits, makeup, hair, and the sets--were all excellent.

Wife and I enjoyed thoroughly- I am a bit odd in pattern Matching as is our daughter. This was quite real and a very well produced series “Forigive your enemy, but remember the bastard’s name.” -Scottish proverb

***Spoiler *** One of the things that I was relieved to see was that Harmon wasn't sexually abused. I could do with a little less on screen sexual abuse of children, and it would have been too easy for the writers to have put her in an abusive adoptive home.

** Spoiler ** I'm struggling with the implication that Beth's birth mother committed suicide with Beth in the car. It's more than suicide--it was attempted murder-suicide. Is that what she tried to do? Year V

I empathize with this paragraph. I have those same desires for Beth, but then I have to remind myself that Beth is a fictional character. I don't want a second season. The first one ended so perfectly. I don't want the writers to ruin it. Of course I'll watch it though. Year V

** Spoiler ** Was Townes gay? Year V

The suggestion is clear that Beth's birth mother attempted to kill them both. The early scene shows Beth at the scene of the collision, where her mom's vehicle struck the truck head-on. Hard to believe Beth was told "Close your eyes", just prior to impact without it being intentional. Townes was certainly in a gay relationship, but he indicated to Beth in the last episode that he was "confused" and had moved on. I think it's safe to assume that he's at least bi-sexual. If there's a second season, one of the interesting issues will probably be what kind of relationship Beth and Townes are capable of forming. Yes, you must be right. That's the story. I guess I just wanted to be wrong. Year V

One of the things I liked about the story was that there was no evil adversarial character. There were blubbering losers but I really appreciated the respect, kindness, and sportsmanship of Beth's opponents. Year V

**Spoiler*** The way Borgov concedes to Beth was perfect. It was really touching.

***Spoiler Alert*** She wasn't explicitly portrayed as such, but I'm convinced there was a Soviet spy who not only covertly obtained and provided intelligence on Beth's abilities and weaknesses, but directly attempted to sabotage Beth's first head to head competition with a Russian master. That's pretty "evil" in my book! "I'm not fluent in the language of violence, but I know enough to get around in places where it's spoken."
