One episode in and it looks good. The recommendation said if it's even half as good as the book it'll be as good as Foundation. Its running on Netflix.

Just finished episode 2 and so far so good. It is very different from the book if for nothing else it takes place in London.

It always takes me some time to put aside my expectations and realize it's Hollywood. For example changing the main character from a middle aged, male, Chinese leading scientist to a 20 something, female, genius with the looks of a runway model, running an advanced nanoparticle project. Sigh. On the positive side I do like the portrayal of the historical scenes from the Chinese Cultural Revolution.

Holding on and hoping they don't completely jump the shark.

I downloaded the book trilogy, but will probably try to watch the show first.

Just watched episode three. I am liking it. Episode three pulled the story line together nicely.

A few characters from GOT showed up in the first few episodes, which I liked..nice to see them flexing a little acting chops.
And yes, Auggie is more than a cutie- great bone structure Big Grin

Finished it last night. At some point, I'll get the books. This series is very good, but it peaked at episode 5 and kinda faded from there.

I am still waiting for it to peak. I think it is boring and if they don't start connecting some dots soon I will never finish.

Well, they are 400 years away and the series ended with earth woefully unprepared.

Spoiler alert:

I don't follow the waffling. The alien said to not respond, that it would be bad for humans. Then they seem friendly, sharing history and tech somehow. Engaging in dialogue. Building rapport. Then they turn their backs and consider humans fearsome and enemies. Then they reach out to supporters again, even though they lie. Their behavior baffles me.

And why do people call the aliens Lord / God? It's an age where we can differentiate between an alien and god.

The things that happened during the cultural revolution trigger a rage in me. Thousands of years of growth in human intelligence and the epitome of stupidity shines through.

For those so inclined and have access to Viki, the chicom series version is available;
Looks like 30 episodes. Mandarin with subtitles.

I don't watch a lot of TV ( maybe 4 hours a week) but I started watching this because it seemed different and finished the whole series in a 3 day period. I Really liked it, and we are bugs (but remember bugs are so hard to eradicate).

While there are lots of plot holes, I liked it overall.

For one thing, why don't they just have the sophons wipe us all out now? It's not like they need us to be around when they arrive. Hell, they even said they were afraid of us and that we would overtake them technologically in 400 years when they arrive. Seems simpler to just kill us all rather than trying to slow our progress by "stopping our science".

Often, the "story" is more about being a convenient platform to discuss and understand people in a roundabout way, than the "aliens" or whatever.

If the "punchline" is seen too soon, and obvious, many people will not engage in the "telling".

I started enjoying a great many films and books for what was being conveyed, rather than scrutinizing every detail for factual or realistic points.

Don't let the smell distract you...

They DO have a kinetic weapon that can wipe us out. It's in the books.

The science isn't on the side of the books with the weapon. It's beyond devastating and there are things out there MUCH worse. We have to evacuate a remnant of humanity for what comes that is worse than them that easily wipes them out (extinct) AND Earth with extreme prejudice.

NEVER announce your presence.

Other life out there doesn't value life whatsoever. Apex predators know apex predators.
