Used to be a BIG Beatles fan a lifetime ago. Just asked my friend that still is an authority in the subject and he informed me that this song release had been rejected twice a long time ago. First John gave the thumbs down circa 1978 and then again George said no in 1995.
Wondering if this is not just Paul’s money grab.
I loved George and John. Not much love left for Paul.

Would not surprise me at all. Seems like this time they are pushing it as a way to "honor" John but as always "follow the money"!

Listened to it on Spotify last night. It may have been written by Lennon originally but it very much feels like a McCartney type of song in the end. Meh to me.

I just listened to it and have to disagree. It sounds and feels very much like a Beatles song to me, kind of sad and melancholic. Almost like something they would have released back in the mid-late 70’s had they stayed together.

And it has been reported that AI was used in the production....

It sounds like a John Lennon song from the time of his most forgettable music. Interesting new tech gives it a Beatles vibe but in the end, kinda creepy.

The AI software was used to separate out Lennons voice from the piano playing. It is a very interesting technology applied to a cassette tape.

I thought it was very well done and sounded like a Beatles song. I think the ‘rejections’ done early on was because the technology to make John’s voice front and center didn’t exist at that time.

Just my two cents.

I don’t know about you naysayers here.

I’ve now listened to it about six times in each time I listen to it I like it a little bit more.

I think I figured out what is going on with this song it’s almost like it was a hit by the Beatles in 1989 in the alternate earth of Fringe where John Lennon had never been killed and they never broke up was a big hit that year along with the Traveling Wilburys. LOL

^^^You Lol but now that you say it, it does sound a little like a Traveling Wilburys collaboration to me. But not a good Traveling Wilburys.
This ones not for me. A bit slow and melancholy.

The video that was produced for the song is pretty dang cool. The song itself…not so much.

The man has more money than God. I can't imagine he'd do something for only that purpose.

It definitely is a Lennon song. The chord progressions and lyrics are his style.

I like it. I’m glad they made it. Neither Paul nor Ringo need the money. I think they saw it as an unfinished work they could complete the best they could.

After Peter Jackson did some great work on Get Back with being able to isolate tracks and get great quality audio, Paul and Ringo decided to finish this song. The technology just wasn’t there yet in 1995.

It would be nice to see them apply this technology to Free as a Bird and Real Love.

Maybe so, but with irony it still reminds me of a McCartney granny song to me. Ironic because it was Lennon who originally and derisively coined the 'granny' description during the later years of the group.

Meh. 2 guys singing along with 2 dead guys. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Cash Grab. I wish Apple would use Jackson's AI to enhance all the pre 1963 recordings Apple bought to suppress, because of poor sound quality.
