Many years ago I watched a 60 minutes type show that said James Garner hardly made any money from the TV show. Stupid contract, paid for that firebird like 50 times and stuff like that. I liked the show. What was the western he was in way before Rockford?

They should remake "Richie Brockelman, Private Eye" instead. Or maybe they will and just call it Rockford.

I wish these were jokes. DEAR GOD NO. It's a humiliation ritual at this point. They seek to destroy everything we hold dear. It's like that Matlock shit with the old lady. The mainstream media-entertainment complex is mocking and demeaning the traditional American man. I hope they lose their ass.

Loved the Rockford files, could not watch a reboot as I know Hollywood would screw it up so bad. Went to Ca for Christmas and had lunch at Paradise Cove in Malibu,it was neat to stand in the spot where Jim's trailer house sat and see a plaque about the show.

It depends. Matlock was a “reboot” but all they took was the title and references to the tv show as a tv show. So I gave them a pass. I can’t see a Rockford reboot dovetailing from the original. The thing for me was the answering machine in the RV that was on the beach. I guess Rockford itself was a takeoff from Manix now that I think about it. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I think of James Garner--the actor, not his characters--as a happy grifter, like Maverick. Never seemed to take himself seriously; often with a virtual wink at the camera. He could play serious parts--that's why The Notebook stood out--but he was a lucky guy that Hollywood threw money at, and he seemed to always get that inside joke. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

All I have to say is that I was a kid and didn't have a drivers license when I was watching that show, and I wanted that Pontiac Firebird then and I still want it now! "The left can't applaud me because their hands are in other people's pockets." - Javier Milei

Even in The Great Escape his part reflected that. He was the scrounger and the corrupter of German guards. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Blackmore, Harshest Dream, Reality

Have they remade Cannon yet? I liked the original. ****************************************************************************** Never shoot a large caliber man with a small caliber bullet . . .

Butch2340 They have not remade Cannon as of yet nor the Barnaby Jones spinoff. I also liked the Cannon tv show. William Conard was a pretty interesting individual: Conrad served as a fighter pilot in World War II. On the day he was commissioned in 1943 at Luke Field, he married June Nelson (1920–1977) of Los Angeles. He left the United States Army Air Forces with the rank of captain and as a producer-director of the Armed Forces Radio Service. Plus he was an avid outdoorsman and accomplished fisherman. Having been known for his prowess using light tackle, as documented in the magazine Field & Stream, on May 23, 1972. The same can be said for Buddy Ebsen. I cannot imagine who they would choose to fill these reboots.
