TAGS for me. But no real complaints about The Rifleman.

For TAGS, I am always conflicted when I see Andy do something that we might consider a lie, to effect a greater good.

As an example, in one show he and his girlfriend escape a cave-in. No one knows about the back door to the cave, but when Andy and Helen find it, they get out and head to town. Hearing the townspeople berate Barney for being overly directive, and realizing Barney would be destroyed if they were not rescued, they go back in the cave and pretend to be in mild distress. Barney is a hero, yet not a true hero.

Many episodes have similar untruths leading to greater good. I guess that's real life.

Only saw parts of the The Andy Griffith show in reruns; can't recall an episode. There was something about the characters that just didn't work for me; a bit too hokey/simplistic and Griffith rang false to me in his demeanor.

Thought the Rifleman was ok when I was younger, but now don't care for it; the characters don't work for me now, either; guess I have less 'willing suspension of disbelief' now than I had back then.

I think my next favorite is the haunted house episode.

Aside from AG, I enjoy Little House on the Prairie. For such a tame show, the dad Charles gets his share of punches in.

I was a wee lad when I watched the episode of The Rifleman where a big ass rattlesnake came along and snuggled with Lucas. I always make sure the tent is zipped shut 24/7!

Nah, I watched it (still do on MeTV), it was OK but real Westerns were in B&W.

Rifleman, Maverick, Gun Smoke (pre color), Cheyenne, Wagon Train, Paladin all are more in my wheelhouse.

Colt 45 starts a 4am here on H&I tv followed by Lawman at 4:30 with John Russell. Yes I'm awake to watch both many times. Then Maverick followed by two episodes of Wanted Dead or Alive with Steve McQueen. Never did like that show and I'm not sure why. That is followed by two episodes of Have Gun Will Travel which I can take or leave. Then an hour of Rawhide which is always good. Can't go wrong with a young Clint. I always liked Eric Fleming as Gil Favor. I felt he was a good actor that could have done more but I believe he drowned filming a scene in the Amazon river or something if I recall.

Then comes the High Chapparal which is one of my favorite color westerns of the day. Also like the Gunsmoke color episodes. After High Chapparal comes Cheyenne with Clint Walker whom I like just not in that series. Written into most scripts of Cheyenne were scenes of Clint Walker without his shirt on. Kept the wimmen folk tuned in!

I feel exactly the same. Never could warm up to “Anj” and the rest, even as a kid. Would rather watch Dick Van Dyke back then or Get Smart.
Also got tired of Johnny Crawford mewling out “PAWWW!!” every 5 minutes.

My son gave me the box set, season 1-5. I show him my favorite episodes,
he loves them. I like all the black and white westerns especially Rawhide.

I enjoyed the show growing up, but a number of my cousins knew him personally and were very clear about what an unmitigated self-important prick he was. For what it would take for them to express such sentiments I haven't been able to watch him any longer.
