I'll likely go see this in the theater as well. Maverick & Ford v Ferrari were the last 2, Wicked 1 & 2 weren't entirely my choice.
One of the things to remember is that they wanted to make as many of the items as simple and from known configurations as possible. They knew the life support for the crew would need to be custom but was designed as simple as possible.
The ship had to be designed to carry the amount of fuel needed - beyond that, it was designed to be as simple as possible to build and put up in orbit.
I'm looking forward to the movie.

I read the book last year. Seeing the Movie on Saturday. Its the first movie in a very long time that I am excited for. I really hope they don't fuck it up.

We enjoyed it, was a bit longish but held my interest throughout. Told my wife that it kind of reminded of a mix of 2001 and ET (not meant as criticism).
Saw it opening night, very good movie. It stayed true to the book. At 2.5 hours I thought it felt very rushed, they sped past a lot of the science involved in all the detail. I suppose that's to be expected in movie world, but I was kind of disappointed that the science was skipped in favor of movement. Book vs movie. Overall I was very entertained, Ryan was great, Rocky was great, but with the time constraints on the science, they also put a constraint on development of Rocky's personality. They did an excellent job, he was extremely entertaining, but I felt they could have developed him more and given him Wall-E type status. I will definitely watch again when it comes out on dvd.

Saw it with my wife and our friends today. Best true Sci-Fi movie I think I've ever seen. If you have access to a Cinemark ScreenX (270 degree view) with D-BOX (Haptic-feedback in the seat) location, I would highly recommend paying the extra for that experience.

Saw it this morning. A really good time at the movies.
Gosling is excellent and I think captures the personality of the character as he's sketched out in the novel. Rocky is provided a vivid personality and animated reasonably well, given his actual, more or less blank, physicality.
As others have mentioned, Weir's detailed science content is necessarily lightened up as is required for a film vs. a novel. Like any film adaption of a novel, this is the highlights of the story version, more focused on action than introspection or interior monologue.
The two and a half hours length flew by. I highly recommend.
