Who's going to be watching it? They just released a brief first look type documentary "Finding Harry". It looks like the production value will be pretty high. I'm interested to see John Lithgow as Dumbledore. They alluded that it's already planning on going through the whole series, 7-8 seasons. While I'm a bit disappointed it's going to be a rehash of the movies/books, it will still be fun to see a new take. It will also be nice to see some of the things the movies left out from the books.

I also don't give a rat's ass that Snape is played by a black guy.

My girlfriend is a massive Harry Potter fan, and she's cautiously optimistic.

On one hand, she's excited about a new adaptation of the story. On the other hand, she's concerned about whether they're going to try to cram some woke BS into it in an attempt to placate the pro-Potter but anti-Rowling minority.

It's good that they went with a series, so they're not so pressed for time and can explore more of what's included in the books that had to be left out of the films.

Yes, there was tremendous backlash against JK Rowling, and there are fans who think the new series will be an effort to smooth things over.

And having Snape played by a black actor is pure pandering.

Screenshot of the result of my Google search for "harry potter hbo":

One would think the actor playing, oh I don't know, maybe Harry Potter?, might be listed first in the cast. Poor guy doesn't even make the first page.

I will start to watch it. If it is even mildly diverse for diversity sake I will stop. Not a fan of Snape being black. Wouldn't be a fan of Harry becoming Harriet either.

It ain't being made by Disney, folks. I'm also cautiously optimistic that it won't be wokified. We shall see...So far, all I saw is that Snape is black now. While that's interesting, I'm not going to make a big deal about it like a black elf in a shitty LOTR series. That backlash was ridiculously over the top. I'm not familiar with the actor, so I'm curious to see how he handles the character.

What's the issue with Lithgow? I enjoy his roles. If it's his politics, you can tell how much of a damn I give. He's not up for election.

Making Snape black takes this whole scene, suspending him in the air under a tree, no less, in a new direction of bullying lending itself to prejudicial intent.

There were always, of course, prejudicial tones in HP, "pure bloods versus mudbloods, but to bring in a main character with a race switch seems misplaced.

Initially looking forward to it, the more time goes on, the less likely I am to watch this.

During a break from" testing in their fifth year, the group of Gryffindor friends known as the Marauders – James Potter, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Sirius Black – are sitting outside on the Hogwarts grounds near the lake with their classmates. James releases and catches a stolen Snitch, Remus studies, and Sirius Black taunts Peter Pettigrew for being “thick” on an exam question about a werewolf. When Sirius complains about boredom, James spies one of their favorite targets, Severus Snape, sitting alone and decides to start a confrontation with him.

Shouting out their favorite nickname for Snape – “Snivellus” – James disarms him with “Expelliarmus,” and uses the Impediment Jinx to make him fall down. As other students gather around watching their victim struggle on the ground, Snape begins to shout curses and hexes at James, who then casts “Scourgify” to fill Snape’s mouth with pink soap bubbles, gagging him. At that point, Snape’s childhood friend from Cokeworth, Lily Evans, comes forward and tells them to “Leave him alone!”

As Lily tells James off, Snape manages to get his wand back and hits James in the face with a cutting spell, possibly Sectumsempra. Angered, James retaliates with a silent “Levicorpus,” turning Snape upside down and allowing everyone to see his underpants. Lily again intervenes and makes James release him, but the harassed Severus made a dire mistake and yells “I don’t need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her!” That was to be one of the greatest regrets of his life, and a major reason his friendship with Lily soured.

Trying to make Snape apologize, James turns him upside-down again, and as Lily walks away, James threatens to de-pants him in front of the crowd"

He is a hypocrite. IMHO, if he is such a "Trans" supporter, then he should have never taken the role.

Disney does not have a monopoly on making shitty woke bullshit movies.

I'm not a Harry Potter superfan. I didn't grow up reading the books, but I was aware of their existence. I did watch all the films as they released and was adequately entertained. I understand there is much left unexplored from the books a TV series could more appropriately portray. However, I really don't need any more exploration in that universe. Had they actually chosen to explore the books more and cast appropriately, I would have likely given it a chance. From their casting decisions AND interviews indicating they will be ADDING modern storylines not from the books, I can absolutely say the only viewing this series will get from me is when I watch youtube critics rip it apart. Just like Rangz of Powah, The Magicians, Kurtzman Trek, Disney Star Wars, etc.

I honestly don't care if it's the finest thing on television. I don't need it and they don't want someone like me watching it. I declare it non-canon. Anyone else is free to enjoy it of course, but I certainly won't.

Of COURSE it will be woke.

The leftists have been seething for years over JK Rowlings' supposed 'anti-trans' statements (really, she simply said what a woman is; not the woke mythology that a woman is whatever somebody says it is). The gay/trans crowd latched onto the HP story as their own. They were living in a closet until somebody came along and showed them that they are different, special, and better than everybody else (wizzards vs normies). I fully expect them to go full retard with Dubledore's gayness - if they don't, those mentally ill people will go berserk.

"Black Snape" just shows that they are already pandering. I'm really surprised they didn't make Hermione black.

People have been clamoring for years for a Babylon 5 remake, and I warn people to be careful what you ask for; you might get it.

The Percy Jackson show was pretty good (except they made Anabeth black, and that actor has ZERO charisma/chemistry), but I don't have any faith in hollywood's ability to make decent shows without cramming them full of woke crap. They simply cannot help themselves. I think the Harry Potter name/brand/reputation will be too much for them to resist changing stuff.

According to Google AI:

What ethnicity is the new Hermione actress?
multiracial British

Arabella Stanton is stepping into the hallowed shoes of Hermione Granger, and the fandom is buzzing with curiosity, debate, and, unfortunately, prejudice. Arabella Stanton is widely described as a multiracial British performer.
