Me too, although I don't have near the amount you do. I just have a de-banned SA93, and a Saiga 12.

Nice collection you have there.

I only have two AK's left. One is better than the other.

Isn't it somewhat sacrilegious calling that an AK? Confused Smile

I suppose that depends on which one you care to insult. Not to hijack the mans thread, but without the dumb mags, I'm confident no one would care about the AK but fetishists.

Shot side by side, I don't know how you reason the AK is better. I'd shot a Hakim long before I found one of these rifles which is like someone left an AK in their pocket and put it through the dryer.

I've shot AKs but never really fell in love with that platform. That said, I wish I'd picked up a VZ when they were easier and cheaper to come by. That's a beautiful example that you have there, Arc.

I've never personally liked the AK that much but I will probably still buy one someday just because they are such an iconic gun.

They do indeed have a cool factor. Cool

Did they make an AK with Beaver Barf stocks like on the the VZ? Mine is a Side folder, so glad I grabbed it when I did.

Kinda. The VZ58's "beaver barf" furniture is made from phenolic resin and wood chips. Old school Bakelite furniture used on some AKs was made from phenolic resin and wood dust. So they use similar materials, but the "beaver barf" uses significantly larger wood filler particles than Bakelite, and as a result has a much rougher plywood-ish look.

Just bought a zastava m70 over the summer and a case of 7.62. I’m tiptoeing into the AK world. So much to learn with all the countries that made their own variation etc.

I’ll admit I’m not big into AKs. I’ll start with stocks to short & usually terrible triggers. Yeah, I’m sure everything can be improved.

My son is more into them, so I’ve shot a handful.

That all said, I really like the VZ-58 in some flavor. It’s better in most ways. I think it would take effort to get it to jam, cycles everything.

I get the appeal, I think. Reputation for reliability, cheap ammo (is it still?), cold-war-cool looks. But I never felt the desire for one. A friend of mine built one and I shot it. Not impressed. The stock was so short that I had to pull my head back to keep the receiver from smashing my nose. And yeah, the trigger ...

Cool. Yeah I guess it had to be just a matter of time. I have an ALG trigger in my range/HD/SHTF AR, they're great. The other reason I'm not gonna dive into the AK world - no reflection at all on the guns - is I just really do NOT need to be stocking yet another flavor of ammo, no matter how cheap it is. You don't even have to get that fancy to have an AK with a longer LOP and better trigger. Even before all the cool guy aftermarket options came to market in the past decade or so, you could get a replacement "NATO length" fixed buttstock and a Tapco G2 trigger, which easily addressed both of those on the cheap.

I have a warm spot in my heart for the FAL, and I feel like AK guys should get comfortable there.

I actually prefer the Warsaw stocks. Short arms I guess. I do miss the availability of the G2's though. Great triggers and I do prefer the shape of a well-tuned G2 over the ALG.
