Dropped my Savage BVSS 308 into a MDT Chassis
Hello Guys.

I posted about my new to me Savage 12 BVSS 308 a few weeks ago and how well it was shooting my hand loaded 168gr SMK loads. The rifle came with a nice Boyd’s Varmint stock, but was a little bulky for my tastes.

I have come to really enjoy the MDT Oryx chassis and for less than $500, I feel like you get a lot for the money spent. Just drop the action in, tighten to 60ftlbs and go shoot.

I did have a slight POI shift but 2 clicks on the scope solved that issue. Speaking of scopes, the Leupold MKIV 3.5-10 M3 LR/T mounted to the rifle is a great fit for this gun. I was worried about the coarse 1moa adjustments with the M3 knobs, but getting a tight zero at 100yd was no issue. This gun will only be used to shoot steel at distance. I’ll use my 6GT to shoot the wings off a fly at 1000yds….lol.

The Savage in the green Oryx is also a Savage 12 in 22-250. That gun is a beast and absolutely loves Hornady 53gr VMax with 36gr IMR 4064. I shoot this gun to 600yds and have no issues connecting with 6” steel targets. The attached target shows my last 3 shots yesterday at 200yds.

Eurooptic has the Oryx chassis on sale with free shipping and no sales tax. $449 shipped is a pretty good deal right now. I had it in two days. They are back ordered at MDT for 10wks.

First group when I first received the rifle.

Before with Boyd’s stock.

After MDT chassis.

22-250 Oryx chassis.

Yesterday’s 100yd testing with new chassis. I was using two different primers looking for POI changes. Once zeroed, both loads with different primers both hit to the same POI. The Winchester primers were 20fps faster on the chrono.

My 200 yd group with the 168’s were not so tight, but that absolutely means nothing. Winds were gusting 15-20mph at the range. My SD’s were in the single digits and some bullets do not really stabilize until after 300yds. I fully expect this load to shoot well out to 800yds. I show the not so great groups as well….lol Big Grin

The 22-250 at 200yds however is a beast.
