I have the fever four another .22 rifle that is reliable. I was going to buy the S&W 15-22 but decided it feels to toy like. I can’t find a Tippmann M4 anywhere (In person). I have found the HK 416 though and like it. I know it is made by Umarex but I’m not sure that matters. They own Walther, which are quality guns so I’m sure it’s a good weapon. I want to hold the Tippmann before making a decision but I’m getting anxious and want to make the purchase. Is the Tippmann that much better or more well liked that I should just order one sight unseen? Anybody with experience with both to offer advice? My purpose would be just for range plinking and maybe the occasional armadillo in my yard. I may go with a red dot but that would be the only alteration I would do.

Tactical Solutions (TacSol) makes nice .22LR uppers.

No experience with the Tippmann, but I prefer my S&W 15-22 over the HK, mainly because it’s got a real barrel and breaks down like a real AR. The HK is just a cosmetic shell over a pot metal action with a pencil barrel under a normal sized barrel shroud. You can’t remove the bolt for cleaning unless you perform a detailed disassembly, and the bolt catch/release is just molded on and non-functional. Finally, the trigger group is a proprietary unit that’s unlike any HK or AR trigger group, so you really can’t upgrade it, beyond maybe a couple of springs. The HK has the look, but that’s about all. OTOH, the 15-22 has a real solid barrel, breaks down like a normal AR for cleaning, has functional controls, and even takes regular AR triggers. 15-22 all day for me.

Are the magazines proprietary as well? Any decent vendor has M&P magazines for $25 or so. $22.95 at Greg Cote's. The Tippmanns (I did a search) look intriguing, especially in .22 WMR.

Yes, they’re common to other Umarex made tactical .22s like the Colt M4, G36, and ARX160, but different than the ones used for 15-22. They also typically run around $30, so a bit more than 15-22 mags.

I live about 20 miles from the Tippman plant and one of the dealers I frequent stocks a selection of them and accessories. I was there looking around for a .22 rifle Semi-Auto that was ready for suppression, maybe a 10/22. Saw the display of the Tippman M4-22's and the M4-22 Elite-ISS-16 integral suppressor got my attention. I ended up with it after a couple days wait on the tax stamp. So far just 1 trip to the range and shot a box of SK standard+ to check function and blow the cobwebs out. So far very accurate and 100% function. However, I probably would have never picked it without getting some positive reviews about quality and local service if needed from Tippman from local owners. _____________________

All the research I have done, the Tippmann gets consistent great reviews. It surprises me that they are so hard to find though. Some of the replies have me reconsidering the 15-22.I will swing by the store tomorrow and pick it up again.

I picked up a Nordic 22 upper along with some blackdog magazines for my youngest grandson. The Nordic upper works well, no issues. .

I had a chance to look at a used one today. And compared to it, the M&P does feel toy-like. The Tippmann is all metal - receiver, charge handle, handguard, everything. All those are plastic on the M&P. Only the flip-up sights were plastic. Its heft and overall feel is comparable to a 5.56 AR. It even has a functional forward assist, probably superfluous on a .22, but still a nice touch. And $450, too. (A new one at full retail is some $200 more.) I was extremely tempted. Too bad I have other things going on now. Even now I'm tempted to go back.

I went and looked at the S&W 15-22 this weekend. I like it but it just feels like a toy still. I’m sure it’s a nice gun but I decided to order the Tippmann from Palmetto State Armory. I picked it up for $449 and added a $30 magazine. It’s a leap of faith as I have never held or seen one. I’ll report on it as soon as I receive it and put a few hundred rounds through it. It truly can’t be worse than the Savage Arms Precision 64 I bought a few months ago. That thing is fun, when it fires, but it is a jamomatic.

I have a Tippman, it “feels” like a normal Ar-15. Runs everything __________________________ If Jesus would have had a gun he would be alive today. Homer Simpson “Him plenty dead” Tonto

I put 200 rounds through my new Tippmann today. It is very accurate with the sights and feels great. The problem was that it would not shoot the 2nd shot unless I ejected the round or toggled the safety from on to off. You could feel the trigger reset and fire after this. I thought it was the break in but it lasted the entire day. I was firing Thunderbolts. I fired a total of 500 between my Sig P322, Ruger Mark IV and the Tippmann. There was not a single misfire on the day. The only issue was the trigger not resetting on the M4. The Sig is usually finicky with ammo but not today. The Ruger eats anything. I took them home and cleaned/lubed them. I have no faith that this will correct the issue though. I could not see any issues with the trigger. Any thoughts on it? I will shoot it again next weekend and see if the cleaning worked. If not, off to Tippmann.

That's sad outcome on a new Rifle. Try again after the cleaning just to be certain or contact Tippman Monday and ask their opinion or maybe just ask for a return shipping label. No way that should happen on a NIB rifle. Below is an AI suggestion for several things that could be the problem. Unless you have experience with the AR trigger system, I would let Tippman figure it out. AI Overview: AR trigger reset and release problems—where the trigger fails to reset, binds, or fails to release the hammer—are usually caused by improper spring installation, debris buildup, burrs, or incorrect disconnector engagement. Resolving these issues involves a systematic approach to inspection and maintenance. _____________________

These guy sell some great .22 uppers at good prices and a nice discount right now. Their dedicated .22’s feel like a real gun, are extremely accurate, reliable, and made by CMMG. They run off the blackdog mags that fit a standard AR lower. I have two of them. One has a M4 barrel, the other a LW pencil barrel. I have not had a single jam in 1000’s of rounds with CCI SV. https://www.righttobear.com/co...e-22lr-upper-groups/

Thanks. That’s what I arrived at as well. I will call them on Mon and see their take on it. I just don’t see the cleaning changing it.
