VaftocrTippmann M4 vs HK 416-22
I have the fever four another .22 rifle that is reliable. I was going to buy the S&W 15-22 but decided it feels to toy like. I can’t find a Tippmann M4 anywhere (In person). I have found the HK 416 though and like it. I know it is made by Umarex but I’m not sure that matters. They own Walther, which are quality guns so I’m sure it’s a good weapon. I want to hold the Tippmann before making a decision but I’m getting anxious and want to make the purchase. Is the Tippmann that much better or more well liked that I should just order one sight unseen? Anybody with experience with both to offer advice? My purpose would be just for range plinking and maybe the occasional armadillo in my yard. I may go with a red dot but that would be the only alteration I would do.

Dwill104No experience with the Tippmann, but I prefer my S&W 15-22 over the HK, mainly because it’s got a real barrel and breaks down like a real AR. The HK is just a cosmetic shell over a pot metal action with a pencil barrel under a normal sized barrel shroud. You can’t remove the bolt for cleaning unless you perform a detailed disassembly, and the bolt catch/release is just molded on and non-functional. Finally, the trigger group is a proprietary unit that’s unlike any HK or AR trigger group, so you really can’t upgrade it, beyond maybe a couple of springs. The HK has the look, but that’s about all.
OTOH, the 15-22 has a real solid barrel, breaks down like a normal AR for cleaning, has functional controls, and even takes regular AR triggers. 15-22 all day for me.

Are the magazines proprietary as well? Any decent vendor has M&P magazines for $25 or so. $22.95 at Greg Cote's.
The Tippmanns (I did a search) look intriguing, especially in .22
WMR.

Yes, they’re common to other Umarex made tactical .22s like the Colt M4, G36, and ARX160, but different than the ones used for 15-22. They also typically run around $30, so a bit more than 15-22 mags.

D_SteveI live about 20 miles from the Tippman plant and one of the dealers I frequent stocks a selection of them and accessories. I was there looking around for a .22 rifle Semi-Auto that was ready for suppression, maybe a 10/22.
Saw the display of the Tippman M4-22's and the M4-22 Elite-ISS-16 integral suppressor got my attention. I ended up with it after a couple days wait on the tax stamp.
So far just 1 trip to the range and shot a box of SK standard+ to check function and blow the cobwebs out.
So far very accurate and 100% function.
However, I probably would have never picked it without getting some positive reviews about quality and local service if needed from Tippman from local owners.

All the research I have done, the Tippmann gets consistent great reviews. It surprises me that they are so hard to find though. Some of the replies have me reconsidering the 15-22.I will swing by the store tomorrow and pick it up again.
