I’ve recently gotten back into Beretta 92’s and it’s been funny. The reaction I get is one of two - “hey that’s a classic...”. Or a few “that’s old technology, too big, and it’s unreliable...”. (I’m assuming this is based on a lot of the issues the guns had in the Middle East with the cheap mags.., Now I don’t mean to date myself but I remember when the 92 was all the hotness when Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis used them in the movies... I still love the feel of the trigger and I enjoy shooting them. Truth be told, if I was told to carry one as a duty weapon I’d feel perfectly sufficient with it... I’m curious what people on here think. (Not that you’re going to change my mind on the gun...). What is the overall consensus here?

Ignored facts still exist |
I made the mistake of avoiding them after reading in 1988 that the Navy was "having slide breakage" with them. I wouldn't touch them. The loss is mine --- they are a fine pistol. .

I own darn near every Beretta except an 86 and a modern 92. Something about the lines and shooting these pistols that caused my collection to grow. Fine company, fine pistols. “Forigive your enemy, but remember the bastard’s name.” -Scottish proverb

Fantastic and utterly reliable pistol. What's not to love? You will find lovers and haters for any given pistol, not just the Beretta. Have you heard of the Glock? Or the 1911? Q

I love the Beretta 92 When they first came out, I was like many due to all the horror stories that I heard and read about. That all changed when I was issued an almost brand new Beretta 92SF with trijicon night sights at my first Police Dept. Then the Army issued me one. The love affair has never wavered I would carry one on duty right now if I could The only pistol that has ever trumped my 92 is my Sig 229 in .40. My Italian tomahawk/Boat anchor to me is perfect for me

My other Sig is a Steyr. |
Some will swear by them, some will swear at them. I had some range time with a 92, it just wasn't what I was looking for at the time.

Pros / cons to the slide design that basically fully exposes the barrel? I'm sure fine for range use. But what reasonable dirty situations? I'm guessing also fine but not sure. Carried one in the army, even saw one KB and we never found the recoil spring and a piece of the slide. I got a commercial M9 and put a bunch of Langdon/Wilson combat parts in it and it’s one of my favorite guns. I absolutely trust it and if I run out of ammo I could use it as a war club. It’s also my gun I keep in my shtf bag

Love ‘em. I even carried mine for several years. Though I do appreciate the smaller, lighter options that I have today. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

Berettas have been long derided by service members for being too big or triggers to long to be fast. Make no mistake, they are big guns. Langdon revived the 92. The result is a superb double-action/single-action pistols with a “silky smooth” double-action trigger pull, a significant improvement over the stiffer triggers on military and police Berettas. The single-action is likewise improved. As a result, the LTT is popular with shooters who know the craft. One really doesn’t need to own a LTT 92 to appreciate the B92. Minimal cost and effort is required to convert a stock 92 into a great performer. I’ve used parts from both Wilson Combat & Langdon to upgrade both my Centurions & Compacts. Equipped with MecGar 15 rd mags, my compacts make for reliable carries & performers. Recently added a 3032 to the Beretta stable. Slips in the pocket quite nice. I love the mechanical elegance of these guns. ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…

I hate 'em! The Beretta 92 was my all time favorite pistol, until I was introduced to the SIG Sauer P226.

During my time in the Army it was either an M-16 or a .45. Then, the Berettas came. I fired the first round and thought I had a misfire. The range NCO and checked it, yea it had worked. Just like a sister’s kiss. Never liked it and fortunately never had to rely on it. “ The work of destruction is quick, easy and exhilarating; the work of creation is slow, laborious and dull.

Odd, I didn't know there was a group of people that hated them. I like them, just never purchased my own because I am a SIG fanboy and I have enough pistols for now. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

I love them and am happy they are still popular, heck maybe more than they have been in years with the new LTT offerings. Especially now that they are offered to accept RDO’s, they will stay viable for a lot longer. I still feel like it is one of the smoothest actions on any production semi auto and the lines on a Beretta are unmatched in style IMHO.

I carried an issued 92 on duty and frequently off, for 16 years. Never a hiccup, the gun shot better than I did. I shave with Occam's razor

Love em' Shot a couple WAY back and generally avoided them due to me having fairly small hands. Finally got one of my own because....well if you are a gun guy you should own a Beretta 90x series. I found that they actually fit me much better then they have any right to and with some thin grips just awesome. Like anything they have their pros and cons but in general I absolutely love them and the slides always feel like they are running on buttered ball bearings. Good guns in my opinion. Very good pistols. I have owned several since the early 90's and have had zero problems with any of them.

For real? |
Loved my Brig but then got the LTT Centurion and fell in love all over again! Not minority enough!

Count me as one of those individuals who were enamored by the Beretta 92 b/c of the LW & DH movies. Once the U.S. military adopted the 92FS, that was all it took for me to purchase one. Liked the trigger and loved the grip/balance of the pistol, but I never could hit the broadside of the barn with it. After 6 frustrating months, pawned it off for my first Sig P225 which I still have today.
