I carry my CZ EVO in a soft-sided mandolin case.

^^^^ Exactly. I carry my SBR Scorpion in a standard school backpack sold at Costco, Wally World, etc. A good one is surprisingly well padded. A local school key chain or something similar completes the maskirovka. I've also thought about using a diaper bag. That would work really well if you had younger kids. __________________________

My Serbu Shorty rides perfectly in a bright orange Ukulele case with just a bit of extra padding. Don't think there is a huge demand for Uke's among instrument thieves.

Always learning something new here. Thanks. As for theft targets, though, my concern would be that the thief would simply recognize a musical instrument case and believe it was something he could sell/pawn. The less he knew about instruments, it’s possible the more likely he would just think he could make a buck off it without having any idea what it was. But if he were a specialist thief and were likely to think, “Huh: a ukulele? No one would give me a dime for that,” then I could see how that might be effective. ► 6.4/93.6

I also own this very bag, and keep an AR in it. It is made for two rifles, but the weight starts to become a problem if you keep two rifles in it. One AR, and some PMags in it, I'm good to go. Looks a lot like a snowboard or tennis bag to most folks.

I have used a wilson tennis bag, it was too flismy but worked for a folding stock AK or most recently a 20ga shockwave and an ammo sling. A padded tennis bag would work well, looking at one for my 8.5" 300 blk pistol

Define "short." I have a basic 16" A2 mid-length carbine with retractable stock, it's 32" long. Can I assume it will fit in the 34" model?

I think you need to dress the part with the bag. If you are decked out in 5.11 clothes and a Prince tennis racket case or coyote colored bag I'm going to suspect bullshit. Now if you are wearing a light colored athletic material polo, shorts, and tennis shoes with a Babolat case over your shoulder I'm probably not going to have my guard up about getting smoked. Well, Maria could have a M249 in there, for all I care. (sorry, I don't know how to resize trolled pictures).

Is the 30" or 34" dimension the inside length? ► 6.4/93.6

I'm sure just the right headband will do.

I got the 30”. A 20 round mag fits better but the case still closes without issue with the 30 round mag. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

I went to Walmart and picked up a blue Wilson tennis racquet case. My AR-15 Pistol with a 7.5" barrel and Shockwave blade fit in the case with the magazine inserted. It also has a large pocket that I can fit five or six spare 30 rounders in. I have had that set up for about three years, and can carry it while I travel, then take it right through the lobby of the hotel without drawing attention.

The dimensions stated in product descriptions all too often don’t specify if they are internal or external. If 34" is external, a 34" gun probably won’t fit. ► 6.4/93.6

I’ve had a couple of rifle bags come with a band that has hook on one end and loop on the other. It weaves under molle and secures the rifle. If you could find those loose and take it to a shoe repair store, I bet they could sew them in place with their heavy duty sewing machine.

A SCAR 17 with the folding stock retracted...will fit into an ADDIDAS "Barricade" tennis Raquette case. Ask me, how do I know ? Never judge a man, till you have walked a mile in his shoes..... That way, you'll be a mile away from him; and you'll have his shoes.

So question: Not to totally side track the conversation. Why discrete bags? My guns just go in gun bags. Into the trunk... to the range... back and forth. Why the need to disguise what you have? Some of us prefer to keep our hobby private. I live in a typical residential neighborhood but always load and unload the CRV with the garage door closed. I rarely stop anywhere before or after a range trip. If I unload in the drive (very uncommon), I grab the Galati case(s) and hustle inside. I doubt my neighbors would notice or care, but I see no reason to advertise.

I live in an apartment complex and travel frequently. I’d rather the entire complex not know that there’s something worth stealing in my apartment. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014
