SIG Sauer in Eckernförde is SIG Sauer DE. Once it's closed, SIG DE is no longer.
Why would SIG USA want to do that? It's not like the firearm market there is huge like that in the US, and the German government is still trying to put Cohen in prison. A better proposition would be to make arrangements to move all the German machinery over here and train folks to make guns that SIG USA was not making. Q | |||

That was the only German facility of Sig Sauer. The two men who own the holding company are German, but Sig is effectively an American operation at this point.

I just spoke with JDI and received no indication as to issues with their partner (sigsauer.swiss) It thus appears Sig Sauer AG in Switzerland is conducting business as usual at the following site: Industrieplatz 1 Postfach 1071 CH-8212 Neuhausen am Rheinfall The mastershop, based in Deutschland, appears to be the most significant victim as far as I’m concerned as many of the standard pistols can be obtained via Exeter. | |||

Sad to hear this. It is, of course, also a topic on german gun forums. It seems SIG Sauer (DE)faces more and more economic problems, the domestic market (due to regulations) is small, and the company is not really "helped" by german politics (rather the opposite..). So the complete shift to the US market and production, finally, is a consequent step. | |||

My thought was that it was a shame to waste a pool of skilled people and the opportunity to sell into what I presumed was a European market from within the EU if the operation could be sized down to whatever extent was necessary and still remain viable. It's not like Cohen would have to go over and run it in person. Of course, if Germany wants to encourage the transfer of skills, machinery and capital to us, then who am I to argue? I'm sure SIG US would be happy to ship guns to Germany. | |||

Fuck that! Bringing them to the US would be a waste of time. We already did that and we got all kinds of half-assed quasi-SIG products via. SIG Sauer USA.
No, HK isn't stupid enough to hire crooks and idiots to run the place... Right into the fucking ground. I have the solution: 1) Since we're talking about 130 employees. It's not like Boeing or GE. So, just pack up all their shit and move to Switzerland. It's like moving from Colorado to Wyoming... Piece of cake. 2) Drop the Sauer branding and get back to their roots as "SIG". Swiss owned, Swiss manufactured. 3) Resume production of all the Mastershop guns and other desirable classic SIG pistols manufactured in Switzerland as GOD intended. 5) Send Cohen to Germany to sweep out the floors of the Eckernförde facility after all the CNC machines have been relocated to Neuhausen. Problem solved!!! I'd like to emphasize... Cohen really should take a trip to Germany. | |||

Well, there's those pesky Swiss neutrality laws, which were why the German connection was made in the first place. As for HK, haven't they been in financial panic mode for at least the past few years? When those problems with the G36 kicked up, there were more than a few people wondering how long HK could stay in business. | |||

Can someone in-the-know lay out the finer points? I already know that Sig Arms is the Swiss company, J.P.Sauer is the German company and Sig Sauer is the collaboration that allowed the Swiss company to sell guns to the German military and Police. (Or something like that). So, is Eckenforde a Swiss or German operation? Surprising to see this earlier today. Probably cannot compete against Glock in Austria with the Classic series and the SigPro was mostly a flop. The P320 was probably too late to make much of a difference, and it sounds like exporting the design from the US is an ITAR issue. HK needs to learn their lesson and focus on US civilian sales to generate volume that will allow economies of scale and more cost effective production. They seemed to learn that with the VP9 vs. the P30. But still they are not importing enough SP5's to meet demand and they are selling over list price. | |||
