It is an SAS frame. Thought about selling it for a time and then this thread got started. It’s back in the daily carry rotation. I guess it’s a combination of the lighter weight and thinner profile of the folded slide, but this carries so much better than my P229.

I’ve never owned one. Though I think highly of them. Had a P225. Traded. A P6, gave to my son. An old German P226. A couple P239’s.

But. I do have a P229 9mm. It’s close enough to a P228 where I don’t have an overwhelming NEED for one.

Any of the first generation West German/Swiss Sigs is a keeper especially a P-228.

I do want a Zurich marked 228. For no good reason. But I want one.

Right? It's like Hans or Wolfgang or whoever was designing this pistol with me in mind. How big are Walt's hands? Does he like the 9mm? This is the weapon for him! And it is.

About to send the frame of my first 228 to CCR for a much needed refinishing. Had the slide done a while back, and was waiting for the current sale. I'm going with OD green with black controls. It's going to be so pretty.

Some get hung up on having to have a W German stamped variation. IMO any version of the P228 is a keeper and one of SIG’s best designs. I just sent my 228 slide to SIG and had it Nitron’d. It’s actually ionbond that does SIG‘s finishes as they are right down the road from them. For 100 bucks plus shipping it’s a excellent deal…

Even with all the plastic fantastic the good old classic Sigs are some of the best ever made. I really like my 228 as well, a KF from ‘95 right after they stopped marking W. Germany. SA pull on my example is just under 3# from the factory!

Gents,

Here's a picture of the P228 I picked up a couple of weeks ago...complete with new tritium night sights and Greyguns trigger work/short reset trigger.

For reasons lost to time my first gun purchase ~1994 was a sig 220. Could have had the 228 for same money. But only had enough to buy one then Took a few years and then CA laws got nuts and the value of German sigs in CA went bonkers. Finally obtained a shooter 228 and then found one basically NIB 228 to tuck away.
As a kid the old “ to hell and back reliability” ads were the best.

I have this same model as well. I won it from Q a few years ago. My boy just shot it for the first time last weekend. It was a little big for his band but he certainly hit his targets!

Mistake Not...

I love my Sig 228 that I bought from Q. I actually got two, but gave the other to my law partner. I stupidly (back in the day) sold the gun that I got as a present to myself when I graduated law school. Q fixed me up good and I'll never make that mistake again.

I own a P228. It is a very reliable gun. These new guns seem to have problems. If I remember the P365 has had quite a few problems.
