I’ve resisted getting one of these so far, wanted to get one, always had a love of all things BHP but had already sort of scratched that itch and the matte blue SA-35 had nothing over what I already had. Over the years and fortunately for my bank account I cheaply obtained a 1992 BHP MKiii (assembled in Portugal one) and an Arcus 94 KA MKiii clone ($100 for the Arcus and traded a REM 870 Express for the BHP). The BHP was a cosmetic nightmare but mechanically fine and no rust- it’s been refinished in cerakote, the Arcus is ugly but who cares. Both are great shooters (mag disconnect have been removed on both). By my reckoning, the beautiful blued BHP’s of long ago are out of my reach with what I’m comfortable in spending. This Springfield is well within that range and I’m turning 60 in a few month… Resistance is futile. “Posterity! You will never know how much it cost the present Generation to preserve your Freedom! This may actually get me to bite. I have wanted a HP for a long time but the matte finish on the SA-35 just didn’t get me excited. This one has made my very short list of wants. _________________________ "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last” - Winston Churchil

Happy (early) Birthday to me. Should be here by end of the week. “Posterity! You will never know how much it cost the present Generation to preserve your Freedom! I hope you will make good use of it. The finish was my only complaint about the SA-35, I have been on the fence about Cerakote in gloss black. A couple years ago I bought a Girsan. I know, I know. It was a Detective Special, the shortened commander style BHP. I wish SA would do that and offer this finish. That would be in my safe tomorrow. The Detective Special version is so much nicer than the full size one I own. Dimensionally it is about perfect. All my SA’s have been good with one exception that needed a trip home to work properly.

My Springfield Garrison 1911 was blued and I was surprised at how well it was done. If the SA-35 looks like my Garrison, I may jump. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Happy New Years to me- I have one on the way. One note on this version- it does NOT have the magazine disconnect safety. That should greatly improve the trigger. These are available at a very reasonable street price. But it only comes with one magazine. I’d like to get a couple more- should I buy a couple of Springfield factory mags, or just go with the Mecgar? I know the Mecgars are great mags, but is there any point in having a couple of factory mags?

The SA mags are Mec Gars. I have both original FN mags and Mec Gars (13) and both are the same, in fact newer mec gars are better. I have one or two mec gar 15 rounders as well and never had an issue. Last round is a bear to load, use a loader. “Posterity! Bought one when they first came out, shot great then the extractor broke, Springfield told me to send it back, but a local friend/armorer has always specialized in 1911's and HP's so he got it, replaced the extractor, smoothed the action and did a trigger job, now like a Swiss watch

I ordered one online and went to pick it up today, but the finish looked really bad- sort of mottled and light. Nothing like the nice deep bluing I’ve seen in photos. I did not do a transfer. Dealer said to email some photos to request a return, which I did. This photo was after I wiped down this section with some CLP.

That's disappointing. That certainly falls short of the advertising photos, and I don't blame you for not accepting it. Hopefully that's an anomaly, because if it's the norm these are going to be a huge flop. Just out of curiosity, what's the markup on the blued model over the parkerized one? ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.
