There are a few others of us that are on the downward slope towards retirement (although not quite as close as you), including myself, 92fstech, BennerP220, and jbourneidentity. Wink

Oh, that's when I WANT to retire...
a few things changed shortly after I figured that date out. I'm going to be here a little while longer than I expected.

I am nearing retirement and my lady friend lives in the PRNJ...

NJ has their own process for retired officers carry. (shocker)

Anyway.

I have a P225, HK P7M8, and a G43X for the 10 round States.

I have a very nice G19M MOS and a LNIB WG P228, that I just picked up, for the Freedom States.

Forgot to say how I was carrying…
Usually it’s a kydex IWB that clips on, easy off when I sit on the couch-the gun goes right next to me, if I get up it goes back on.

Otherwise it’s an Don Hume H721 10-4 1/4 (colt commander) OTW with a thumb snap

Very nice choice! I think the Sig 1911s never got the respect they deserve. I sold an RCS that I always regretted, just got a line on another yesterday and hopefully can work a deal. I use Simply Rugged almost exclusively for all my different guns OWB and IWB, same holster, just belt loops added or taken off.

After 28 years, my carry is a 365XL in a Vedder appendix holster.

Congratulations on your retirement. Now you have to get as many years out as you put in Big Grin I haven't retired just yet, but I am real close. I figure that I'll just continue to carry what's familiar to me. It's great to have options though, so experiment and enjoy the ride. I'm sure you'll find something to carry that suits you.

I agree, my shoulders are to the point that I can no longer wear an outer carrier. I'm now recovering from shoulder surgery #4. After I recover from this one, #5 will take place. The outer carrier can be useful for sure, but balancing the weight is tricky.

I have a personal need to carry a minimum amount of rounds. 31 is that magic number. 16 rounds in a 19 and a reload. I carried a G48 for a few days and it felt odd. I couldn’t tell it to be more comfortable, but it wasn’t bad.

I’d say when I retire I may consider a 43x or 48, but I’m not there yet.

Congrats to bcjwriter and 10round (and all the others)for making it all the way.

Hey now, I'm not gone just yet Big Grin Although I have been absent from the forum for a bit, I'm still here. Now recovering from shoulder surgery....again (#4).

I’m over halfway there I guess. 16 years in to a 30 year system. Hopefully I’ll save all my sick time and be out at 28 years. 52yo or so then.

I’ll probably be carrying a phaser by then. But for now it’s a P365 regular size, with a 12 round mag in it and a 15 rounder on my belt in a simple Kytex mag holder.

Usually in an OWB kydex Tulster holster at 3-4 o’clock, but also sometimes IWB in a kydex clip on if in a hurry, or pocket in a Nemesis or even Smart Carry when needed.

Wilderness Instructor 1.75 5 stitch belt.

Glock 19 for whenever I feel like I need a real gun, same options as above except for no pocket carry. FIST high ride kydex or Milt Sparks VMII.

I can’t imagine wanting anything different when I retire, but who knows.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

Congrats on your retirement. Enjoy it- you deserve it-
That Sig 1911 is a nice gun but too big and heavy for me to carry daily.
I'm about 20 months out from my planned retirement date but eligible now. Will probably keep carrying what I do now. As my daily off duty wear is not great for concealment (I live in jeans or shorts and t shirts due to the year round weather here) I usually carry my 442 (sometimes on my ankle if in jeans or IWB) or G43 (IWB). If going somewhere I might need more firepower I still carry my trusty P228. Was just looking at a P320 X Compact to replace the P228 and it gives me the option to add a RDS to it.

Dang, that's pretty awesome. We're only allowed to bank a maximum of 360 hours of sick time, and I stay maxed out. Sounds like you can bank 4000+!

I could punch out in 8 years, but there are further benefits for waiting up to 10 additional years to retire (like increased pension). So unless I'm just totally fed up by then, I probably have another 10-15 years until I leave.

As to the original question-
Outside of the best answer yet: cslingers "whatever the hell you want gun"!
What's your duty gun?

Then there's the What gun off the list of California Approved can you carry?

In California, you can carry any pistol you want. Buying "off roster" is the issue. Buy if you move into the state from friendly territory, you can bring any pistol you want. Best to bring in extras, then sell those extras to those of us behind enemy lines.

Not so much since last summer. NJSP hasn't updated their "Retired Officers" page, but the PBA and FLEOA sued the state a few years ago over NJ's insistence that LEOSA didn't actually apply to New Jersey. New Jersey got curb-stomped in summary judgment.

(Yes, New Jersey's position was actually that simple. "Nice law you have here, United States. We've read it, but we've decided it doesn't apply to us and we're simply going to ignore it. But thank you for your interest in carrying in New Jersey.")

Currently, you need to meet the same requirements you would anywhere else in the United States: ID, qualify within the past 12 months according to the standards of your state of residence.

The 10-round idiocy lives on, though.

Well, to be fair, New Jersey really isn’t in the United States.
