I carried mostly a G26.3, or a G43X…for deeper concealment I have a standard 43…which is what I’m carrying now…

Congrats...I've been retired 15 years now. Welcome to the ranks of the unemployed, who finally get to collect a well deserved paycheck every month When I retired my primary duty gun was a SIG 226 with a Kahr CW9 as my backup. My SIG 228 was common Off-duty piece. Nowadays a casual carry piece I'll throw on is the Kahr. If I'm actually going somewhere, I'll usually have my SIG 320 in either Compact or Carry configuration No, Daoism isn't a religion

To all of you, for your retired/off duty holster do you tend to use OWB or IWB?This message has been edited. Last edited by: c1steve, -c1steve

OWB. After 28 years wearing a duty rig, my L3/L4, to say nothing of my hip joints, really can't take the abuse of a IWB rig No, Daoism isn't a religion

I do appendix IWB because it doesn’t cause the problem with my back. Fortunately, my agency switched to outer vests that would carry a lot of our gear towards the end of my career. I’m hoping that delayed the damage to my back… Only time will tell.

hello darkness my old friend |
My duty carry weapon was a Glock 17. My EDC is a Glock 43 or Sig 239 in 357 Sig. Congrats on the retirement. I have been retired for 2.5 years and I'm still getting damn subpoenas...

We tried to get them to authorize outer vest and they wouldn't..not their problem because issues don't come up until after you retire. Have your doctor take a close look at your hip joints (imaging) for the onset of arthritis. It's due to how you adjusted your posture to carry the weight, sitting in the car all shift, and getting in-n-out of the squad with the weight No, Daoism isn't a religion

Hanging a bunch of gear from outer vests isn't a total solution for physical wear and tear either... Hip/lower back issues go down, but shoulder/neck/upper back issues go up.

I'm carrying a G43 right now, IWB/Appendix (closer to 2:00 than 1:00) in a Mitch Rosen Independent. It was my authorized secondary when I was still working. I regularly cross into New Jersey, where LEOSA at least exempts me from their ludicrous "hollow point ban" but not their equally-ludicrous 10-round limit. The G43 keeps me legal with factory mags. I actually bought a G43X for the same reason, anticipating that I'd retire eventually. I like the 43X but it mostly lives in the safe. Post retirement, I pocket-carry an extra mag and a small light (Fenix LD12) but no longer drag around the cuffs or intermediate weapons in my personal car, or the additional cell phone that used be super-glued to me. My LEOSA ID is two-part and large, or I'd otherwise probably ditch that additional badge wallet, too. Still a "retirement rookie" but have concluded that it doesn't suck. Congratulations on making it across the finish line, and best wishes for many, many years of being a burden to CalPERS.

Congrats. Retired street cop, we carried the P226 in 357SIG. Due to policy I usually carried a G19 or a Mod. 60 when off duty. After I retired I started using a G43X (which I really like-went with the aftermarket mags). Then one day it dawned on me I could carry whatever I wanted. Prior to that the policy restricted 1911s. (Someone was afraid the light trigger would cause inadvertent shootings. ) since I’m retired I’m not bound by that policy. So now I carry a Ruger 1911 lightweight commander in 45ACP. Love it. The 1911 was the first gun I was issued in the CG. I use a STI 2011 in USPSA gun games. I don’t bother with LEOSA. No need to qualify annually or deal with their schedule. I just got a TX LTC (CCW) and I can carry across the southeast with that concealed. "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. Congratulations on your retirement. I retired in 2021 after 25 years on the streets and now work full time with a company tasked to a .fed agency. We are issued Glock 23s and off duty I carry a P365 X Macro LE version that has the XL upper that’s not compensated. So far, it’s a great shooting pistol and I carry it in a Vedder IWB light bearing holster. Again, congratulations. It was the best move I ever made.

Damn fellas. All the dudes from my generation of coppers around here are retiring. Guess it’s down to me and CPD SIG now. I have a personal need to carry a minimum amount of rounds. 31 is that magic number. 16 rounds in a 19 and a reload. I carried a G48 for a few days and it felt odd. I couldn’t tell it to be more comfortable, but it wasn’t bad. I’d say when I retire I may consider a 43x or 48, but I’m not there yet. Congrats to bcjwriter and 10round (and all the others)for making it all the way.

Do---or do not. There is no try. |
Retired 23 months ago. I carry: P320C in 9mm or .357 Sig (my last sidearm) P229 in 9mm or .357 Sig (my previous sidearm) P365 in 9mm in the summer (my backup weapon since the P365 came out) and sometimes my P239 in .357 Sig if I want the better caliber in a slimmer pistol.

I will probably be retiring next February (2024) with 25 years under my belt. My retired carry will probably stay the same as my current off-duty: Glock 26 or S&W 642. Lately I’ve been carrying the 642 more and more. One possible change is that I might pick up a Glock 43 to carry in place of the G-26. As for carrying options, that too will stay the same. Most times I carry OWB. There are times I will pocket carry the 642 and sometimes it gets carried in a Galco Ankle Glove. You, me, and that dude running around here without pants. To all of you Retired folk (or people, for those that get the joke)- CONGRATS! Please enjoy it! Not retiring any time soon, I've got 27+ in the circus, I figured on Oct 2025- that would be 30+ and 55yo.... Well, let's just say a few things changed. As to the original question- Outside of the best answer yet: cslingers "whatever the hell you want gun"! What's your duty gun? What's your off duty gun? What's your favorite gun? Then there's the What gun off the list of California Approved can you carry? ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. I go back and forth between IWB and OWB. Hiking, walking the dogs I go OWB and when I do I go back to my G19 Gen 5. Most all other times it's IWB G43X or deep concealment AIWB with the J-frame. My last assignment was CID and I carried a G19 so I'm use to it OWB. OWB in a Bravo Consealment holster I don't see a huge difference between the 43X and G19. BTW, thirty two years on and I started with Model 66 (County), GP100 (town cop), P94, G22 gen 3, P226/P229, G22 Gen 4, G17 Gen 5 and finally G19 Gen 5. DPR

Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for your years of service. Carry whatever you enjoy, you earned it. I try and be somewhat practical so I'd probably go with what I was most familiar with.

So I got my "carry whatever the &%*! I want" pistol for my retirement gift.

There are a few others of us that are on the downward slope towards retirement (although not quite as close as you), including myself, 92fstech, BennerP220, and jbourneidentity.
