I neither see nor hear it until someone else mentions it. The lock never caused a problem during tens of thousands of rounds of accumulated shots, nor has the cicada-like orchestral audio background bothered me as I go about my mundane daily affairs.

My experience was like yours, until one day it locked up my 329PD. Now that's an extreme example (everything about a 329 is a extreme, lol), but I now remove it in all my airweight magnums, just for peace of mind.

Honestly, you don’t even need to plug it - that last part was an absolute PITA on my 638. Next time, I’m just going to remove the locking arm and the flag and call it done. I’ll just leave the cam/lock in place. I don’t care if it spins.
My issue is cosmetic. I don't often carry a revolver, but if I do it doesn't have a lock. I actually don't think I have any with locks, not intentional, just kinda happened.

I don't have any with the lock and don't plan to acquire any. It's not that the revolver has a lock, rather it's that the lock the revolvers have can malfunction and lock the firearm up when I need it.

While I dislike the lock, my bigger issue is the frequency the frame mounted firing pin guns have issues with misfires. People buying extended firing pins, different mainsprings etc to get guns to go bang. I would not own a S&W centerfire with a frame mounted firing pin, which by default all the lock guns are

I don’t own any with the hole anymore. It’s unsightly and completely unnecessary. The only new S&W revolvers I buy are models without the hole. The only two on my radar ATM are a Performance Center 640 and a 632 Ultimate Carry and neither one is high enough on the list to get me to act.

I pulled the lock out of my 686-6 and put in the plug. Very easy and it got rid of that lock. Its a 20+ year old pistol and never had an issue. I just hated the lock. Also put a 5” barrel on it. I quite like the 5” barrel length on a 686.

I am mostly a Ruger revolver man, but if I get another Smith, I do not have the bandwidth to give a rats ass about the lock. I will ignore it and never use it. Finding an affordable Model 22, 24 or 25, in good working order, the ability to find factory ammo and or have custom ammo made are what I will be caring about in that situation.
