I’m interested in a 1911. Ive owned several, but always sold them off. Ive reconsidered my reasonings, and while some purists will call it a travesty, Ive decided the reason is that i just dont shoot 45, so id like one in 9mm. Common caliber with my collection, classic design, etc.

Ive always loved the look of the DW Valor, and know they used to be made in 9mm. Any others i should look for, or advice is appreciated!

The DW "Specialist" is a fine handgun. Also take a look at the SA "Ronin." It's a lot of gun for the money.

dan wesson guardian, pm-9 are great options.

I have a DW V-Bob in .45acp. It has the natural stainless finish. I really like it. To me it is one of the best looking firearms on the planet. Mine shoots extremely well, and has not given me any issues.

I don’t know your reasons for wanting it, but if you are looking for a good looking, great shooting pistol, that carries with it a solid pride of ownership feel, the Valor is a great choice.
I won’t be one to give you any hassle about you choice in caliber. I would love to also have one in 9mm. I think the older one gets the more they are likely to want to shoot 9mm over 45 ACP anyway.

Like has been suggested, the guardian might also be a great choice, depending on what your needs/uses are. If memory serves, I believe Hickok45 has a guardian in his carry rotation….and that guy has shot just about everything.

I really like my Guardian. Used it for an instructor class and it shot well for me, carries nicely, and well put together.

I never used to be a fan of .45 ACP. Now I am. Don't know why, but I shoot my .45 ACP pistols more accurately than any other.

That being said: I won't be one to give you grief over a 1911 in a "non-traditional" caliber. Personally, I like the 1911 platform in any caliber. Thus I have 1911's in .45 ACP, 10mm, .22 RF, and 9mm.

As for a good way to go: It would probably help if you mentioned your price range.

I saw a nice full-size Kimber 1911 in 9mm a couple months back. If the LGS hadn't had it priced at near 20% over MSRP I probably would've snagged it.

The only 2 9mm 1911s I've shot were both STI

Many years ago, had a friend that had 2 STI Escort, 9mm & 45ACP.
The 9 was a sweet shooter for a more compact 1911.

Earlier this year, got some time behind a Staccato P, which I believe to be a 2011? (double stack mag).
One of the best shooting pistols I've personally shot. Light recoil & a fantastic trigger.

I have owned my Kimber Ageus Pro (Commander size) in 9mm for a few years now. All the bells and whistles and shoots great. I have yet to have it let me down.

I'm sure you'd love the Valor in 9mm. I have a DW Guardian in that same caliber and it is a real joy to shoot and feels like it was made for my hand. Let us know if you get one.

I have a Dan Wesson Pointman Nine (PM-9) and love it, so the Valor would presumably be even finer. I haven't been around the board too much the last few years because I sold off the lion's share of my guns and kept just a few, even though I haven't been doing too much shooting. One of the ones that survived the cull was the PM-9...it's a keeper.

I’ve owned a DW and it was quite nice. While I’ve not owned a 9mm DW (or other 9mm 1911, for that matter), I’d have a high degree of confidence in their lineup if I was on the search for one.

A fellow shooter at the range one time let me put a magazine through his 9mm 1911, and I was impressed with how it shot.

I have several Dan Wesson 1911's. I like full size government models, and the CCO-style models with an officer length frame and a commander length slide.

My Dan Wessons are .45 acp, and I can't speak to their 9mm. DW makes some outstanding handguns; they used to be the unsung maker; no play, cosmetically well done, functionally outstanding, great triggers, and a "semi-fitted" handgun. Not custom, but no play and well put together. The cos used to be a lot lower. Now they're still great pistols, but not the bargain they were.

If you just want to try one to see how you like it, I recommend the RIA. I bought one on a lark several years ago and it works fine.

If it is something you like, you could probably sell it without loosing much and then buying or trading for something upscale.

I'd like one in 9mm because I don't have one. But then I'd like one in every caliber. DW is a fine choice.

I'd shop for one in .38 Super, but you guys already knew that.

I got to shoot a DW Vigil CCO in 9mm and it was a very nice pistol!

I have a NH custom in 9 and love it but my new favorite is the Staccato P.

I have a Ed Brown EVO KC9. I really like it but will admit I wish it came in 38 super....There are so many good options, really depends on your budget. IMHO the 9mm 1911's are very reliable, soft shooters.

Another fan of the DW Guardian here. It is a real nice shooter and finds my monkey hands well. If I recall correctly, I picked mine up in the SF classifieds a few years back.

The only thing I would change is the rear sight. It’s a flat blade and I’ve grown accustomed to a three dot sight.

I am enjoying the snot outta my Ruger LW Commander pattern in 9mm. Far softer shooting than a full size steel Gov't in .45.
