The gun in question is a P229R in .40 S&W. Although I do still have a P228 that I won several years ago in a KARMA from one of Sigforums most generous members!

^^^ Then you still don’t have to worry about anything incompatible. It’s a straight factory frame replacement. Q

My guess would be that Sig no longer stocks 229R frames for that era pistol and this is why their customer service reacted the way they did.

^^^While you’re correct that new frame would be a little different, it would still be perfectly compatible. SIG really has no excuse here, especially not after touting that hilariously-marketed “infinite guarantee”.

Back in the day, a friend of mine developed a crack in the exact same spot (at least according to my visualization of OP’s description) on his P226 Sport Stock. SIG still replaced that expensive stainless steel frame for free. The only thing was, they sent him the newer rail frame because the old non-rail frame was out of production at that point.

Don't let the lower people frame block you... Call the man... emails like this or letters tend to get attention, if polite, explain the situation, it may get resolved by a higher up.
