Perhaps I missed it, but what year is the 229 frame that cracked? The reason I ask is because getting a new frame might not fix your issue as you’ll need a new barrel depending on the age of the 229.

I have a 20+ year old 229R. When I tried to buy the optic cut slide, the slide would not work with the old block and barrel. You would have to buy a new barrel as well as the frame.

Sounds like you had the Legacy 9mm P229 that has the old 9mm specific (i.e., narrow magwell) frame with the half-height rear cocking serrations short extractor slide, and the locking insert and barrel specific for this gun. That's why when you tried the newer generation slide (with the long external extractor and different dimensions) with the old barrel on your old frame, they don't work together.

If OP's gun is also a Legacy 9mm P229, your situation doesn't apply to him, as he's not looking for a newer gen slide. He's looking only for a replacement frame while still using the entire upper assembly. All he needs to do is put the locking insert from the cracked frame into the new one, and everything will work.

The gun in question is a P229R in .40 S&W. Although I do still have a P228 that I won several years ago in a KARMA from one of Sigforums most generous members! Cool

^^^ Then you still don’t have to worry about anything incompatible. It’s a straight factory frame replacement.

My guess would be that Sig no longer stocks 229R frames for that era pistol and this is why their customer service reacted the way they did.

^^^While you’re correct that new frame would be a little different, it would still be perfectly compatible. SIG really has no excuse here, especially not after touting that hilariously-marketed “infinite guarantee”.

Back in the day, a friend of mine developed a crack in the exact same spot (at least according to my visualization of OP’s description) on his P226 Sport Stock. SIG still replaced that expensive stainless steel frame for free. The only thing was, they sent him the newer rail frame because the old non-rail frame was out of production at that point.
