I have spoken to many people over time who stated that if the major manufacturers started producing firearms in 5.7 x 28mm cartridge that the ammo costs would drop and this round could become quite popular. I selected SIG Sauer, Smith & Wesson, and Glock because they have large lines of firearms and are very popular. There are quite a few companies who also produce outstanding firearms that are very popular such as Beretta, FN, Springfield Armory, Walter, CZ etc. but it was just easier to limit the title of this Poll to just three of the most most popular companies. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Democracy is 2 Wolves & a Lamb debating the lunch menu. FN was the first gun manufacturer to make firearms for that caliber (the P90 and the Five-Seven). While it’s an interesting round, where my personal shooting hobby is concerned, it will never displace the king of the hill in target shooting (the 22LR) and I’ve consolidated my SD ammo to 9 mm, 38 SP and 45 ACP. The latter wouldn’t even be in the stable were it not for my EB Kobra 1911. I do enjoy variety and am glad to see manufacturers think outside the box. Perhaps someday I’ll change my mind but it’s hard to dethrone ammo that’s been around for a century.

Very misleading. | |||

It is not to "Dethrone" any ammo but to add another commonly used caliber. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Democracy is 2 Wolves & a Lamb debating the lunch menu. ^^^^ You design a poll around a consumer choice, but don’t want to hear the rationale. Hmmm... don’t ask the question if you don’t like hearing the round doesn’t fill a role for me over others where my gun choices are concerned.

I think Ruger making their 57 pistol will get more people into the caliber because of the lower price compared to the FN pistol, but other companies also making 5.7 pistols likely won’t make it super popular all of a sudden. I think that it’s still going to be a boutique round and ammo prices are going to stay relatively high.

New firearms are good for the industry, gets people talking, gets customers in stores, maybe buying a new 5.7 gun or something else. In reality, how many ways can you build a 9mm G19 clones, and not have just another G19 I think it's great, hope more jump on it, maybe the G44 will be the stepping stone to the GXX in 5.7 with polymer pistol parts, light, and a 12 round mag

Thanks for the reply HRK. If Glock were to produce a gun in 5.7X28mm it would be a big boost to acceptance considering how popular and prevalent are Glocks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Democracy is 2 Wolves & a Lamb debating the lunch menu. I'm all for choices and as many calibers as anyone could want. That said, for me personally I am not interested but for those who want 5.7 I hope they make lots of choices. Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

I can't think of a single existing design of the above three manufacturers that has a grip frame long enough for a 5.7 round. so we are talking a complete frame up new pistol. Even as a long time 5.7 user I can't think of a single reason to prioritize working on that 5.7 new design over the 10,000 things I would rather those mfg. work on. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Could you imagine how big the grip on a G57 would be? ----------------------------------------------------------- TCB all the time...

Yup about the size of the FN 5.7 pistol given the mag material. Ruger is just a bit better with a metal mag I'm told... “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

About the size of a G40 | |||

Bad Apple of the AAP |
I want the ammo to be cheaper, for sure, so more oguns in 5.7 could lead to more manufacturers making these rounds.

Do the next right thing |
I don't have interest in what would be a plinking gun at what could be .357SIG ammo prices.

The Great Equalizer |
I had a P90 when they first came out because it did look COOL, but I sold it off to a buddy who valued it's cool factor more than I did I settled in upon the 22TCM Cartridge instead Image Coursey of Rock Island Armory The 22TCM cartridge provides somewhat similar ballistics as the 5.7, but the 22TCM can be chambered in many firearms that chambers a 38 SUPER length cartridge. This includes AR-style rifles, carbines or SMGs. Even UZIs would be convertible to the 22TCM My 5" 1911 moves the factory 40 grain JHPs out at just a tad over 2000 FPS. The 22TCM cartridge is easily hand loadable. Brass and projectiles for the 22TCM are readily available and fairly inexpensive Granted you can not use the really pointed projectiles like the 5.7, but that is not a problem for me I do not see where the 5.7 comes in and provides anything else other than saying I have one more caliber ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . I would love to see Sig & Glock come out with a 5-7 pistol. I’d buy it in a heart beat. For now, it will be a Ruger.
