I just bought a new to me P229. It doesn't appear to have ever been fired! No smiles on the barrel and not a mark on it anywhere. That will change tomorrow when I get to the range. I sent a request to Sig to get the year of Manufacture. The weird thing is that it's in the original case but there was nothing in it but the pistol and one mag. Nothing else. I got my first 229 in 1993 but had to let it go during tough times. I installed the thin trigger last night for my small hands. Luckily I had a mono-grip removal tool and a few recoil springs in my parts kit from the old days when I had a 229, 228 and a 239. It's supposed to stay above freezing here in northern Minnesota tomorrow so it should be a good day. I "In The Land of the Blind, the One-Eyed Man is King."

Congrats! I’m not a huge fan of the 40 Smith & Wesson as a cartridge in general, but I can’t argue that it goes together with the Sig P229 like milk and cookies. I have a 229 two-tone that has been a sweetheart to shoot for the last two decades plus, all without any drama. I will never sell it.

It's all part of the adventure... |
I love my 229/.40, though I haven’t carried it or even fired it in a while… I prefer to fire 180gr in mine, though it is accurate with anything. Glad you found another one! Enjoy! My first duty gun was a DA/SA P229 in .40. I still have it. Like LincolnSixEcho, I'm not a huge fan of the .40, but if I must use that caliber I want it in a P229. My brother has a G23, and when you shoot them side by side there's no denying that the Sig handles the cartridge much better.

Love my AB triple serial numbered P229. First thing to do is get a .357 barrel for it. It handles that round just as well as the 40. Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.

I recently was digging around in my "gun stuff" and found a couple P229 LE ONLY used mags I didn't remember picking up. I did, however remember picking up a .40 P229 barrel for my .357sig P229 so off to the range a couple weeks ago. Sadly, those used mags caused problems while my new(er) one ran fine. So afterward, while digging around in the "gun stuff" I found some replacement springs ![]() I'm going to try them out again tomorrow. It would be nice if that fixes them but I have another .40 P229 w/ mags already. I'll stop rambling now and get to the point. No pics OP?

My 229 in .40 is one of the few auto's that I regret selling. With Kn Nill grips it was wonderful in the hand, a true joy to shoot, accurate & just the right size for a carry gun. c4

I have owned my 229 in 40 for many, many years now. It has seen a lot of ammo go through it, and then a 357 bbl. and that ammo. Finally a Bar-Sto 9mm bbl. and plenty of that ammo. It has NEVER failed me, or let me down. A true keeper!!

When I transferred to a Sheriffs Office from the PD, I was issued a well worn, used and abused P229-40. Even though it looked like an M1 Abrams did the jigger bug on it, I fell in love and it is still one of my favorite pistols. That pistol caused my love affair with the .40 and the P229. Even though I haven't shot it in a while, it is my go to gun with my Beretta 92 next.

Glad to hear someone still get excited over an old P229 in 40 S&W. It is by far my smoothest and definitely the one I turn to if/when needed. Congratulations and I hope the range trip goes superbly. Too many SIGs .. ... Nah not really

I use Imgur.com Get into my account, go to Posts--> All (on the left among Public and Hidden) --> upper left corner "New Post" ---> "Choose Photo/video" --> double click the photo in your files where you have it saved--> It will now be in your Posts. Then click the photo--> upper right corner click "..." the 3 dots --> "Get Share Links" --> "Copy Link" under BBCode--> Paste it into the body of your sigforum message. Sorry if it's convoluted. It's How I do it. I'll add that after you paste it in your message, you can make the pic smaller or larger by putting an s,m, or l (small, medium, or large) at the end of your BBCode right before the .jpg so that it's xxxxxxs.jpg for small.

Congratulations. I bought my P229 years ago and found it to be more accurate than I am. Seems arthritis takes its toll. I haven't looked at the factory website for a while but they used to offer a complete slide w/Romeo site in 9mm. Ordered it immediately. It is much easier on my hands to shoot 9mm than 40S&W.

Congrats on your purchase of the P229 in .40 S&W. I know you'll like it because I bought my P229 Elite Dark 13 years ago and loved it from the time I took it out case. I bought mine for 2 reasons (1) that it was .40 S&W and (2) that I purchased the .357 Sig barrel for it and also purchased the complete 9mm slide assembly so I get to shoot 3 calibers from one gun. Never had a single issue shooting any of these 3 calibers all are very accurate and fun to shoot THERE'S NO EXHILARATION LIKE ACCELERATION

Who Woulda Ever Thought? |
I've had a 229-40 for 25 years. Great pistol.
